Advice on winter tires for C350 4MATIC 2009

K this is what I do know.

the front tires are

225/40 ZR 18" 92Y

AND the rears are

255/ 35 ZR 18" 94Y

I have the AMG 5 spoke wheels, I would like to scrap the tires I got and go with all season winter tires.

Can I keep the wheels and swap the tires? can I have the same tires for front and back?

I did a google search and its frustrating because Im being told that the Dunlop M3 Winter Sport tires are R and not ZR.

I live in probably the worst place in North America for winter driving. Its on pair with Siberia.. so take that in mind. I dont want to swap tires every season but most importantly I intend to drive up to the mountains and I dont want to lose control of my vehicle.

it's 4 wheel drive.

Why not just get a second set of wheels and mount winter tires. Changing wheels is much easier than remounting tires, and all seasons are always worse than dedicated summer and winter, period.

+1 If there is significant snowfall, then maybe get 17" winter rims. All 4 tires should be the same size, ie 225-45-17 for winters. All seasons (that came with my 4matic) were staggered.

Funny, when checking tirerack, the Dunlop 225-40-18 were rated 92V

I went with Blizzak LM25 tires for our Minnesota winters. Love them, makes RWD doable. Night and day difference between the OEM all seasons.

They are 'H' rated which is as fast as my car will go anyways and I can't imagine I would drive that fast during the winter anyways.

I just put the same size (fronts) all around. Looks and drives just fine.

"The Blizzak LM-25 is Bridgestone's Performance Winter tire developed for the drivers of high performance sports cars, sport coupes and sport sedans that require winter driving traction on dry, wet and snow-covered roads. Blizzak LM-25 winter tires are designed to combine good snow and ice traction with "European" high-speed winter driving performance."

got some 17'' Elegance wheels with Conti tires and I am very impressed. BTW I got 4-matic and sport package with 18'' summer wheels!

Although I previously used Blizzaks, I now have a set of Nokian WRg2 winter tires (made in Finland) on my original 17" wheels and have not been stuck during our two week of snow, melting now. With a Canadian version W204, you won't have to buy a second set of TP sensors, as I did.

I have a German magazine here Auto und Motor and they did a test with a W204 C-class on 17" 225 tyres.

Best 3 winter tyres:
  1. Continental Wintercontact TS 810
  2. Goodyear Ultragrip Performance 2
  3. Pirelli Winter 210 Sotto Zero Serie II
Over here in Belgium, the Pirelli is best price/performance.

If money is a factor: Yokohama W-Drive are very cheap and have reasonable performance. But definately overall the best price/performance.

4 season tyres are the worst solution in case of snow, barely outperforming a summer tyre...
