C230Brit's C-Coupe
Hello!
I've been reading through this forum for a while now, and figured I'd actually say 'hi' officially
Last year I became the proud owner of a C230K Coupe in Black. I am a cleaning fanatic, and love to spend a good long afternoon cleaning the car. I'm not a huge 'customizer', but I have done some minor cosmetic things. Most recently, I upgraded all my lights to the 2005 model, and am super pleased with the results (although I do now get a battery / alternator error on the console as a result - next thing to fix). I will try and post some more recent pictures soon, but its nothing you guys havent seen before - just new lights. I've done little things like:
Change the center caps, get MB plates and valve covers, change the stick shift, etc. Nothing too expensive - the lights were my biggest purchase, aside from wheels and tires for the winter!
Anyway - here are a few pictures from earlier this year, pre-lights update.
Hope to chat with you all, and I love the forums a good souce of knowlegde and inspiration!

Here are the next 'tasks' on my list...
- Fix 'Battery / Alternator - See workshop' error. Seems to be a result of my light upgrade, when I was doing the rear passenger light.
- Somehow 'clean' the badging. I still want the badges, but need to find a better way to clean between the lettering. I can only see removing them, and then adding them again after, but that seems a bit extreme.
- Fix driver side door not responding to opening / closing windows with smart key. Passenger side works fine (opens driver and passenger window).
- Buy a new (or used clean) center console armrest. I guess the owner before me had one sharp elbow!
Project-wise:
I'd like to upgrade the brakes. Mine are stock. I'd like Bremo's ideally. Failing that, drilled MB disks and new (better) calipers.
Also I'd like to get some kind of front lip spoiler, but havent really done much research into that yet. I can't remember who it was, but someone recently posted theirs with an 'AMG' badge on the right driver side. Looked nice. I like that type of lip, but its seems they are hard to get hold of for coupes (?)

Haha - Advans, I'm sure your missing the OEM look - I'll happy swap cars if you like ;-)
Thanks everyone for the welcome
One thing I'd dying to know, is if anyone has removed the odometer / speedo cluster? I've seen lots and lots of comments about the console where the stereo goes, but not the speedo section. I need to get at mine to somehow clean the glass on the front. Seems the previous owner may have spilt something that I cannot tell if its on the inside or outside of the glass. If it is on the outside, its certainly not coming off! Grrr! Shame there's not a DIY for that yet. If I end up doing it, I'll take pics and post.
I'm really pleased with the new 2005 (OEM) lights. They do seem way brighter as well. I think I need to adjust the height/plane of the drivers light though. At night, I'm really lighting up the interior of the car in front of me!

There is a pair of Mercedes tools to remove the instrument cluster. Its really easy with the tools. They insert into the two little slots on either side and rotate 90 degree's and pull it straight out. I think it's just one plug and you can polish the plastic with Maguars plastix polish and looks new. I will post the tool number when I get home tonight if someone else doesn't.

Nice clean coupey! Please post pics with the new lights!
I like your car, but it does pain me to see the front fender sitting 6" off the wheel. Arrgh! Invest in springs and sway bars. You will thank me.
If you've read the forums you know AMG sways are a bolt on mod for less than $200 and springs cost about the same, $200. And it's not just for looks. You know when you hit the brakes and the whole car dives?
That goes away, as well as fighting to stay in the seat on curvy roads.
Speaking from experience.

Thanks Russell. I'll take that advice!
If you have the part number somewhere, that would be awsome! I think I've seen the tools on ebay, but not sure I'd trust them for pulling out the dash!

PS. I love the way the car handles even now, with OEM parts. It really does feel solid and ready to 'move'.

There have been 3 different MBWorld servers over the years, so that's why so many pictures have RED X's. MODERATORS can't tell me which one is the one to use, as people can log in randomly to any of these, and therefore not be able to see the pictures that were uploaded/posted on the other 2. Good grief.... when will someone fix this ???

Thats great. Thanks Carlos. Ordering tomorrow!
On your thread, post #280 explains how to remove it (just in case anyone was looking / wondering).

It's a shame though, that the thread is scattered over 3 MBWorld servers, so that the pictures don't show up correctly. Plus there are about 5 or 6 other threads with different DIY projects and steps, that should have been included in that Coupé thread too.

yeah, there's a lot of good info on those 25+ pages.

Great work, your coupe is AWESOME!
@BlackLiquorish - I like the design of the C7 wheels, but the paint job seems quite bad. I noticed (again, previous owner - honest!) that paint has come away from the areas near the lug nuts. I think, somewhere I saw 18" versions online.
For the winter, I went cheap at tirerack and got the Sport Edition F7's (17").
Heres a pic
The good thing about these - they are super easy to clean in the winter, due to being 5-spoke. SAdly, the center cap is smaller, so I couldnt add the MB center cap, as I would have liked.
@Advans - I love your rims! They look really striking and must look great in motion.
