Iphone and Bluetooth in 2007 r class
Hi there
I am a new owner of a CPO 2007 R320. It has the P2 and pre-wiring for hands free. I bought a B67875878 BT puck. The pairing of the phones (Iphone 1g and 3gs) were seamless.
However the contacts will not download. When I get a phone call from someone on my contacts list the screen simply shows the phone number.
Can the 07 Comand system and Iphone be set to download the contacts or is it a lost cause?
thank you for your time.

I have paired many iphones and they have all downloaded the phone book, the only thing I could think of if he got the puck from ebay with an early software version that did not support it. This is the only time I have had downloaded trouble. If the dealer has the tool the software can be updated though.

thank you so much for the information so far, much appreciated. I realized that I have 5839 and NOT 5878, so there lies my issues.
Now do you think the 5839 firmware can be updated through a competent dealer?

You may be correct that the 5839 puck is the problem. However, please also be sure that you have the latest versions of the iPhone OS for each one. There were problems with the initial versions of software for both phones - both corrected very quickly by Apple.
With the 5878 puck (which does have the latest MB Bluetooth firmware) and updated iPhone OS, you should get good downloads.

I could not add this to my previous post but the issues with iPod phone book seem to be related to the NTG4 type of implementation with integrated HF in the head unit, not the HF approach of this R-class.

What version of the iPhone software are you running? I am pretty sure my 1st iPhone synced with my 02 E55 but my new iPhone never has with any of my cars. So version 2 software was a maybe and version 3 so far is a NO

The current iPhone firmware, as of this posting, is 3.1. AWS lists the iPhone as compatible with the current MHI Bluetooth puck (5878). You should be able to synch, if you are running that firmware. It does not list it as compatible with the V60 puck, though several contributors reported good results with the V60 puck and the first iPhones.

Lots of owners of the 5839 pucks would love to be able to have their firmware updated, but I understand that while it is possible, facilities that can do it are rare.

There is a bulletin from 09/2009 talking about a new service tool for phone cradle adapters and BT adapters (it does some other tasks too).
I assume JonMBZ is talking about this tool but I would be happy to have this clarified.
The tool part number is W203 589 07 63 00 and it connects via USB to the SDS computer.
