Getting My ECU Flashed on Saturday
Jeremy from OE Tuning (MB World sponsor and VERY reputable tuner) will be in VA this coming Sat. I've arranged to get my 09 ML550's ECU reflashed which should (according to Jeremy) net a 20-25 hp increases (382 to 405) and 30-35 increase in torque (391 to 415). I'm also getting the speed limiter removed. The whole process takes 30-40 minutes and the good news is, OE Tuning has just reduced the price of their ML re-flash from $795.00 to $595.00 which (IMO) is a bargain when compared to Renntech's asking price of $1,795.00. I'll post my impressions after I've driven it for a few days. From what I've been told and read this should make a big difference in my ML's overall low and mid range performance. At least I hope so. I guess I now have to live-up to my recently acquired plate "FAST SUV".
My next change is lowering my ML with Eibach progressive rate springs that should drop it 1.4" and substantially improve the handling. That's planned for the second week in November.

Way to go and very interested in your results. As I have said before I lowered mine last Sept 2010 with H&R springs and still no problems even at very high Autobahn speeds.
This last summer I went home to NY on leave and brought my ECU with me and then had it tuned from Powerchip (recieved it back in like two days). I have noticed that the shifts are quicker and harder and much more aggresive, the only thing that I asked for and didnt get was the speed limitation removed which was the main reason I wanted it tuned, I am not sure what I should do now about the speed limitation removal but it does pull very hard all thru the power band (I love it). I am also looking at getting light weight tires and wheels, Forgestars make very cost effective light weight wheels,so I am looking at those at the moment. Please let us know all the details when you have your tune!!!

More mods today-
Had my drivers and passenger side windows professionally tinted today with 20% film which is about the same color of the rear windows. It looks nice. I also purchased and installed (they slip on/off without tools) OEM ML63 AMG pedals which added another nice touch. The pedals were $117.00 shipped from a wholesale MB dealer in Atlanta which is at/below their wholesale cost. My local dealer wanted almost $200.00 retail. It pays to shop!

Just came back from my re-flash. First impressions are 1) noticeable "dig" at low speed due to increased torque, 2) better throttle response, 3) increased mid-range pull, and 4) faster shifting gears at higher rpm. Bottom line, my ML performs a lot better and is quicker and faster than before. At least for me, it was worth the $$$$! BTW, my gas mileage went from average 16.3 to 17.4 which is also nice.

Great to here,I didnt get a before and after dyno, did you? Did you find a stretch to see if your top speed limiter was removed?

I've had the my ML up to 85 so far but no speed runs, that will come later after I have the Eibachs installed. I really like the way my ML has "improved"!

You can send your ECU to Jeremy at OE Tuning from Canada. It's VERY easy to remove and reinstall because it sits on top of your engine. It's silver and sticks through the two engine covers. It snaps in/out, OE Tuning will also send you directions. Because a re-flash is virtually undetectable your dealer won't know its been done when your bring your ML in for service. Jeremy also saves your original ECU software and can restore ito OEM if you want. And, if your dealer ever installs new ECU software Jeremy will re-flash the new software at no cost. For me at least this is a win-win.

I didn't have time to put it on the dyno. Jeremy used the same tune he recently performed on a 2010 GL550 in CA. He showed me the graph, there was quite a difference in the low and mid range performance which I noticed too. According to Jeremy because VA has 93 octane gas, my ML is lighter, and I'm using K&N filters I should realize even more gains.
