Turn off the Daytime Running Lights and that should take care of it. Reason it's reverts to Auto mode even in the Off position when DRLs are activated is because people tend to think the headlamps are already on, when it's really just the DRLs.

This is interesting. I would wager my first Service A that drive-in movies never entered Mercedes-Benz's collective brain while designing any of their vehicles. I do think that they have carried lack of user input too far in some cases.
My advice: Buy a Volvo if you need to turn all of your lights on/off while operating the engine. However, my newest Volvo is a 2004 model. They may have changed since then.
Let us know if you figure this out.

Despite all the suggested workarounds it remains a very poor and stupid engineering mistake. I will try and find the automatic sensor and disable it and rely on myself to turn my headlights on as I have done for 50+ years. With it disabled the A position should simply be OFF. Coupled with the poor and potentially dangerous steering it is very disheartening to have all these mistakes in what will be my last car. Sell it? Take too much of a beating and my wife, who no longer can drive, loves it.

I hear you. The jury is still out on the GLK 350 vs. XC70 T6 decision.
Having said that, I see another GLK when I'm going home after work. We meet on the same road going in opposite directions. About 5:15. My lights are in "A" and the headlights are on. The other GLK has no lights on. There is/was a way to do it.
Good luck!

Since essentially we share the same bits.
But they have more owners.

Won't that interfere with us texting & answering emails while at the wheel?
