I ran Blizzaks on my W164. They took me anywhere I had enough guts to go. I am opting for the Blizzak DM-V1 245/55/19.

I ended up getting this with Pirelli Ice & Snow.

So did you end up with a set of 19" in wheels from a 2011 ML?

Which 19" wheels do you have? Any of these?

Have you actually bolted them on to see if they work (fit with clearance)?

Frtdog do u have the amg version of the ml? Just curious because I was also looking at the dmv's, and although their loading rating is good, they only have a V speed rating.

IIRC it does - I believe code 772 includes a caliper cover. Will report back.

Actually, the service desciption is 103R, only rated to 106 mph. By contrast, the Pirelli Scorpions have a 107 load rating and H or V speed rating.

18" is what TireRack is also recommending with 255/55R18.

You may be okay with 18"s. TireRack's recommendation is based on US models. One of the differences between the US and Canadian models are the brakes. Canadians get the slotted rotors and calipers with the MB name on it. What I'm not sure is if the parts dimensions are the same for both models.

No I do not have the AMG. And as I will probably never exceed 80 the tire speed rating is just fine.

I got the one pictured above (post #20). Haven't tried it yet but I'm not worried as it is MB recommended. Will book an appointment to put the new shoes on around end of October.

Brakes do get changed they switch to the vented and crossdrilled soIi think they are thicker then std at least at the rear.

Well, it's V rated vs. H, but I'm just trying it because it's new.

19" W164 Wheels work on 2012+ ML350's (Not the ML550) Some w164 wheels have the 21mm lug bolt and some have the 48mm bolts. So watch for that. You can see the size of the ML550 brake package so not much will work for that or ones with the same brake upgrade.

They're mounted and ready to go, but won't put them on until I need them (snow or ice predicted). I can change wheels in about half an hour, so I may just run them in the crappiest weather.

Enabling new TPMS sensors

I understand new sensors need to be synched with the system. I don't recall how I've done this before. Is this a dealer only procedure?

Hi Mark -

Did you have any luck with the w164 18" on the 2012? I'm trying to do the same exact thing 255 55 18 but have called a bunch of dealers and they are concerned with the caliper clearance as everybody else was!

thanks,
Wes

Finally got to test the rims on the MY13 W166

W164 18" (R38) and W164 17" (R44) both fit on my car. The clearance is minimal on the 17" with wheel weights missing the caliper by less than 2mm.

I have purchased the 17"s for next to nix, now I have to find some short bolts, and order the tyres. But the tyres can wait until the demand for Canada has died down, maybe in February/March.

I was concerned about the statement from the Nokian dealer saying that the W164 wheels will not fit. When I look close at the options list, I notice the EX1 pack(ML250) and SP1 pack have "Sports perforated disc brakes with caliper cover". This may be what has caused the interference.

Mounted them up Saturday. Now if it would just get cold (still hasn't been below freezing here) or I'll need to head to Mt. Hood to try them out.

We take delivery tomorrow at 2:00 of a ml350btc with 265/45 R 20 tires They are supposed to be all-season. Is there a winter tire that fits these rims or do I need to buy smaller rims, if so what size? and for that matter what size of tire (winter).

It has been so long since I've had a merc. and do not recall much about them. It was a TD300.

Winter tyres are available in all rim sizes. You can fit 17" through to 21" rims on your car PROVIDED you do not have the optional brake caliper covers.

Mine arrived with Pirelli Scorpion Verde that looks not available M+S in these dimensions so I've been forced to buy a new set of Pirelli Scorpion Winter (M+S+*).
Not yet tested on snow & ice but, so far, I can confirm that the feeling is very good on both wet and dry tarmac, being very silent as well.
The choice is yours, it depends on where you drive. Here in Italy it's mandatory the winter equipment from Nov.15th to Apr.15. I couldn't afford half a year without my 20's.

Here is our one week old ML350 BLUETEC with 18" Dunlop Wintersport M3. Don't know the width of the tires actually. The car runs VERY quiet and smooth with this setup.

The look of the wheels is not very exiting, but they are ok. Will look better in the spring with the AMG-package wheels.
