AutoZeitung M5 vs CLS55
Quote »
The M5 wins this comparison not only due to the fact that he's the clearly sportier car, but also because he has a much better chassis and costs 10 000 € less. The daily use capability is great in both cars.
• The AMG-Torque Converter dissapoints while cruising at lower speeds...
• M5 more comfortable in daily use - higher door frames, CLS too small, driver can't see the front of the car, passangers in the back can't see anything...
• CLS has 18" Wheels as standard... (Less accellerating Performance with 19")
• M5 V10 Engine reacts awfully fast ...
• When you drive in the corner, M5 has much more grip

The M5 is clearly a very capable car that will perform exceptionally. After all, BMW's reputation as a builder of performance orinented cars was overshadowed by MB's newer engines. Since the M5 used to be the benchmark, BMW simply had to do everything to recapture that.
One can always argue about design, but there is one other area where BMW has lost ground: Crashworthiness. The 5 series only received an average crash rating, something unheard of before. Even a Ford Focus was better than the BMW.

Also note that M5's impressive 8'13" Nurburgring lap time was bested by SL55's lap time of 8'12": click here:
Both are great cars, but having seen the new 545i and CLS in person, I'd prefer the latter...pretty good-looking car. But I'm more of a coupe person than a sedan person!

I second that
