a45 wheel damage from bolt in tyre.
Hey guys,
quick unlucky story and hopefully this can help anyone else with run flats that end up driving over a bolt/nail.
Driving through a back street, ended up going over a bolt, that had a sharp tip. Was lodged in the tyre, noticed quickly that the wheel making a ticking sound each rotation. Pulled over seen the bolt. Could hear air leaking slightly, checked for error messages and tyre pressure came up.
So because the nearest place was 1km away, it is recommended drive to the nearest tyre place and get it fixed. In this unlucky case no it wasn't.
The bolt was making a loud enough sound to be concerning, however thinking it's only the bolt head making the clicking sound on rotationg i proceeded at low speed to the tyrepower.
The bolt was tapping the rim each time and caused enough damage in the picture attached, 2mm crack to the inside, tyrepower mentioned no new tyre or patch up allowed due to the small crack. new rim required. only costs $2k a wheel.
Hope this helps anyone that may get unlucky, just call a tow straight away if the bolt/nail is deep enough in and save on your insurance claim excess, it would have been free with mercedes to the nearest dealership.
Keep on snap, crackle, poppin.!!
