AMG GTS Sequential Turn Signals...

I recently purchased an AMG GTS and was kinda disappointed to learn that the rear sequential turn signals are a Europe-only feature.

Does anyone here know if the AMG GT/GTS can be coded to enable the European sequential turn signals?

I know that with BMW there are a lot of euro spec features that can be enabled through coding as I have done this with my X5M.

Thanks!

Saw on a mustang Today. Is it because it's three separate rear lights?

My MB service adviser was clueless about this as well as one of the techs.

Superficially, the lights/hardware look identical to the euro models. I'm hoping that it's just a simple programming off/on mod.

I am inquiring with a few engineers. Let's see what comes up.

From my trusted source, the sequential signal turns are done thru the body control module. To access this module you need Xentry MB diagnostics.
You will then need the special codes to program the sequencing.
Looks like I am going to have to make a friend with a tech at my local MB dealer

unfortunately no luck. The dealer does not want to touch it due to stupid legal BS. I am bummed

I remember this topic coming up on the PL a while back. Someone from MBUSA weighed in and said it was a US DOT thing, that, for some reason, the MB sequential design was not approved domestically. Other sequential designs of course have been - I think it had to do with surface area or something with the GT.

There is probably a workaround, but I could understand a dealer declining.

I say this with respect to past MB models, to get EU features we had to version code some of the modules on the car to ROW (Rest of the World)
This also may be the case with AMG GT

Now for example on a Audi R8 in order to get sweeping turn signals the tail lamp units and other modules have to be replaced. Hopefully this is not the case with the AMG GT

It is unquestionably cool ..... but you're oblivious of it from the drivers seat.

Now, the AMG logo exterior projector lighting is far more gratifying

Will go and check the sequentials now though

I am currently in Germany and working on this exact topic. I am meeting a tech in the next couple of weeks to pickup a new set of tail lamps. I will report back when I get back to the US, install, and verify these lamps. Once they are tested good I will provide contact info and he will be happy to assist anyone looking for a set.

So it will require hardware and not just coding change?

So, this is possible. After months of research and finding the right people I now have a US spec GTS that has sequential turn signals. I will fill in the details in the next day or two but suffice to say it is not easy

Not sure on the front. I will check into this. I would imagine it is going to take some aftermarket module and not just a recode.

I was behind an Audi yesterday and it was sequential as well. It’s a simple thing, but just cool.

I will walk through the steps I took to make this all work...

(1) Purchase a set of European tail lamps.
-I was able to pick these up while working in Germany for about $700
-Part Number Left A1909064600
-Part Number Right A1909064900 or A1909065000 (Not sure on right side I will have to double check)
-https://www.factorymoparparts.com/ seems to have the best price
-These lamps will turn your existing center LED strip from red to Amber
(2) Modify wiring
-Pull taillamp assembly and disconnect
-Look in the connector at the blue plastic and snap off blue tabs so they will plug in to the European lamps
(should be easy to see which portion of the connector needs manipulation once you have the new lamps and look at the socket)
-Add a wire that is missing from US spec. It will go from the Rear SAM module connector 6HD pin 7 to terminal 5 of both left and right rear lamps
(This seems to be the critical wire to activate sequential, you will notice that there is a blank plug in terminal 5 of both lamps)
-Re-pin at the Rear SAM module connector 5H. The wire that is in position 19 (Black/White) will move to position 25. The wire that is in position 20 (Green) will move to position 15
(3) Recode the Rear SAM module to a European or "Rest of the World" code
-Acquire or find someone with access to a Mercedes vehicle interface module (SDconnect)
-Acquire or find someone with access to Mercedes engineering program called "Vediamo"
-Perform recode

Finished!

Now, there may be some room for variations on this. I would like to try and leave everything as factory US spec and simply add a wire from the Rear SAM connector 6HD pin 7 to terminal 5 of both lamps. Maybe it works / maybe not. Another variation if that does not work would be to do steps 2 and 3 and skip the lamp replacement, this would leave you with red sequential turn signals instead of amber. If anyone is in the Dallas area I would be happy to assist, just PM me.

Complex.

Do you have video of amber lights working?
