I've had the car for a couple of months and I was originally told by the sales guy that I had to bring it back in for a rear diff oil change at 2000 kilometers otherwise I would void the warranty.

Then I was told by the manager I don't need to...then told by a service advisor I do...then told by the shop foreman that I don't.....lol you get the picture.

The last thing I was told was it gets done with the first service....since it came from the Mercedes shop foreman...I'll go with that.

Has anyone here had that done?

there is a service schedule at the dealership with all the facts, you need to have the service rep show you the schedule so you will know whos lying. have one for a sl but not a gt. My sl calls for limited slip diff to be changed at 1.5k mi then 40k mi

I dont think the GTS requires it but some of my other Benzes did including the C63BS. This was required at 1800 miles and there was a clear sticker in the top left windshield affixed for that notification. The GTS might be exempt due to the diff being electronic in nature vs mechanical.

NOPE you don't need to do it yet.

They will let you know when you have a "Service A" scheduled. That's fluids and misc other stuff --$100 US expense.

Thanks for confirming...that's what I thought just got a little confused from all the different answers my dealer gave me. Saves me a trip to the dealer.

It's not required at that interval and if my dealer was sending that many mixed signals I might be looking for another dealer with a bit more competence.

I asked my service advisor, talked to the tech myself. He said the GTS diff oil gets changed with the transmission fluid. That meshes with the service manual never showing a rear diff oil change.

My previous GTS did not need to have the dif oil changed at 1800 miles. But my GTC does. It has a sticker on the windshield to change it then.

there is a sticker with run in instructions from the factory on the windshield. The dealer should always leave this sticker on the car.

My GT C coupe has the same sticker, so maybe it's only required for the GT C's and GT R's

It's not 'required' from the factory but anytime you have gear meshing against gear you will always have wear and metal debris especially during the initial breaking in period when the gears wear-in each other as a set. There is no filter in the differential so the debris are left floating in the 3 qts of differential fluid creating more wear (3 qts in the diff, the hydraulic circuit uses DCT and that's about 4.5 qts)

Have you ever seen what the diff fluid looks like after 3-4000 miles? I have and it's not pretty. After the initial break in, there is very little wear. How long you plan to keep the car?

I was told that there "may" be differential oil issues. Mine has 7k miles on it. MBZ came back and said it is due to be changed on the first service interval;

and it ain't cheap!

It's rear simple to do it yourself. Literally drain and fill (your car needs to be level when filling however).

Does this need to be done on GTR? My service reminder schedule on the instrument cluster does not make any mention of it.

My GT C coupe has a sticker in the upper right corner of the front windshield that makes mention of it...not mentioned in other service manuals.

My GTC has it - says 1870 miles. Does anyone know how much this should cost? Is there a filter as well as the diff oil?

There's no filter. It's a drain and fill using Shell Spirax S5 ATE 75w90 GL-5 gear lube. I know people have used Redline Gear lube and Amsoil Sever Gear GL-5 (they all meet the same specs). It takes a little over 3 qts.

Now the hydraulic circuit is different, it uses Shell TF DCT-F3 fluid. You can use either Redline or Amsoil DCT fluid and this circuit takes a little over 4 qts. The transmission must be up to temp to measure the correct level.

It's a little over $700 for the service, or you can do it yourself, it's pretty easy to do. Use an infrared thermometer to check fluid temp.

Just took my GT C Coupe in for this service this week, as I'm at about 2,600 km and was told that the sticker was put on my car and some others in error, and the the service was not required. It came up as a bulletin from late last year stating that due to "incorrect documentation the additional oil change adhesive label was stuck at the factory onto the windshield" and that the early oil change "is not necessary as the locking differential is integrated into the transmission because of its transaxle configuration". The bulletin also includes a picture of the sticker and indicates that it applies to Model 190, which I believe is the designation for all models of AMG GT's (I could be wrong on this last point, but based on what I could find online, I think this is correct).

Just putting this out there as it's worth double-checking with your service shop for anyone who has the sticker and has not yet had the service completed.

I can't seem to find/get clarification on this. Shop foreman said it wasn't in the system as a maintenance item. Said he'd recommend doing it because it's on the sticker. Seemed like a valid point. If what you're saying is correct and it's a mistake on MB's part. I should think I'd have grounds to get reimbursed or simply use it as a credit towards an upcoming maintenance/service.

I probably would have done the same thing as you. I was pushing back a bit and asking questions as I didn't want to miss a required service because of an error in the service tech's interpretation, and then I was sent the attached Service Information Memo / Bulletin and figured I could avoid the change and rely on this. Ultimately, I think the bulletin must be correct as there would be no benefit for MB in putting off services we may actually need. That said, I would push back for some form of future credit as it does seem like an MB mistake.

I will follow up on this tomorrow with MB and report back. Probably be easier to just a get a credit for the future on a maintenance. Instead of trying to get reimbursed. Same thing anyways really. Do I owe you a commission or a percentage for this - lol. Thanks again for posting that bulletin. Yep - I still have my stickers on the car and it has that exact part number in the bulletin.
