Easy V1 power hook up
anyone know how/where to easily tap into a switched power source for a V1? I’d like to install mine driver’s side next to the mirror casing.

I don't. My installer tapped into the fuse box under the passenger side floor and made a fuseable link. Then he ran cord around and under the leg/knee areas and ran it up the driver's side A pillar and then under the windshield header and dropped it out where you want it. $100.

I did the same with my ‘10 R8. I’ll check into the method you used. Thanks for the info.

From what the dealer is telling me it’s not that easy on MB. Getting mine done next week. I hate having wires hanging down. Was hoping to use mirror tap but I don’t think you can get power there.

I agree. My point was I don’t like having the wire handing down into cigarette lighter ....clean like your pic is perfect. That’s why I’m having the dealer clean mine up. Looks great. And BTW ...I LOVE MY V1. Very reliable and gives great warning time. Good luck

Thanks for the reminder. I picked up the new Uniden last year and because of the spaghetti haven't used it as much as I should. Been relying on Waze and hoping I'm not 'first to be served'. Note to self: get this hard-wired.

To be honest, haven't used it enough to notice. The reviews are stellar though. Guess in the back of my mind, I haven't wanted to become complacent by using it. In my area, Waze has been very reliable. I really should use them together so thanks again for the reminder.

I always hardwire my V1s myself. So far on 8 cars. My first issue happened with my 205 C63 when I tapped into a line that is always on. Now I have to manually turn off the V1 when I am not using the car for more than one day. I'll be sure to NOT make this mistake on the GTR. I'll post once I have it. It may be a few months though. Sorry in advance.

I have an Escort iX that has a feature that turns the unit off automatically if it senses the car is not moving. You can select 1, 2, 3 or 4 hours for this setting. Not sure about the V1.
