Help needed: Vin issued but don't know status
Hi Guys,
I need your help to find out which stage my car is at, the ordering department is incompetent and my sales person is unable to get a concrete answer as to which stage of production and / or whether the car has been shipped or not. If anyone has any idea how I can check, I'd be thankful.

Your relationship is with the dealer/agent and their relationship is with them.
They seem to be very firm in this respect

Once you have a VIN, build is imminent ie. on the next few weeks schedule, however, final release and shipment of the car is another story.
My car took 3-4 weeks to finish build and clear QA, then waited for 3-weeks for logistics to schedule a container for shipment and delivery. If you're in Saudi, then I believe your car also transports via that method - ask about that if you don't know.
Finally, there was a problem with the vessel that was supposed to ship my car, so needed to wait for a replacement and reschedule.
Much more complicated that a regular production vehicle that trains from factory to port for mass roll-on/off shipment.

Its very frustrating, particularly when information is not forthcoming.
I waited for almost 12-weeks between VIN issuance in early January and collection, whereas my wifes GLC was built after I had my VIN and arrived 1st week February!!

Yes, I'm in Saudi. Cars are shipped here via vessel's to Jeddah port then transported across the country by land. I received my vin on the first week of March - so its been 5-6 weeks since. The dealership isn't sure whether car has been shipped or not yet. Typically, cars take 6 weeks to be delivered post shipping.
They chased almost every day, as they wanted the car as quickly as I did. I'm sure its the same for your guys.
Hang in there..... it's worth the wait

OK, so based on my knowledge of the process:
- build definitely in March
- release from QA end March, start April
- scheduling transportation and final export +2-weeks
- transportation +2-weeks
So, I would estimate that shipment is very close, however, the factory will issue an invoice as it leaves for export, so thats probably the best checkpoint for you at this stage.

That's what my dealer is claiming - that they can't get any info beyond that and even the order department is clueless. Of course, it is worth the wait but some info would have been nice.
