New GTS E1 owner intro and question
Greetings from CT, all.
Recently picked up a 'as new' GTS E1 and smiling. This is my first auto indulgence after what felt like an eternity relegated to minivans and family cars. Long, previous history of BMW M'cars, older MB's and given that my first car was a '69 Olds 442 w/ a 445, turbo 400/12-bolt, this GTS strikes just the right nostalgic combination as a bona fide German muscle car. No offense to my many 911 friends, but it's also nice not to see myself at every stop light.
A couple questions:
1. Since I technically bought the car 'used' (600 miles), it appears to be missing something in the rear of the trunk that is held in place by two velcro straps located on either side of the locking mechanism. Can't find mention of this in the manual. Any idea what I'm missing?
2. Has anyone looked into a custom, extended 'quilted leather/diamond pattern' footwell or trunk liner? I appreciate the stock interior but a little retro pizzaz might be in order beyond floor a trunk mats.

Yes. The 'missing' thing I'm referring to would be located inside just below the visible locking mechanism at the rear. A velcro strap on either side that holds nothing...or something?

By any chance, do you have this part number? Visited my dealership today only to discover this item is missing in a new GT as well. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't shipped with (all) US-spec cars.
By the way, I also visited a upholstery shop today to experiment with quilted leather interior panel ideas. Stay tuned.....

MBWorld Fanatic!
go back to the salesman and show him whats missing, look in another car. He can have the parts dept order new ones for you, this is supposed to be a complete car when they sell it and not missing safety equipment, which is shown in the owners manual

I ordered my warning triangle set in Europe since my car didn't come with it either (Canada Spec). I asked a couple of dealers around California before and no one had them on stock. I understand this part is not standard in North America units that's why it was difficult to source. Anyway, I think it cost me less than 100 euros.

Mercedes GTS Edition 1
Hi I am just about to buy an GTS E1
How do you getting on with the car, the one I am getting has the dynamic package, I have heard conflicting reports good and bad, mercedes has said in comfort mode it's no different than the one without this option it only when you put her in sport and race the ride is really stiff. Do you have this option?

Thing to consider .....
"Comfort -> Sport -> Sport+" is nice and progressive, with 2-useable road modes and 1-track.
Sounds like DPP switches that round, so all down to your preference

The 'basic' stereo on the other hand, is wearing on me.

No.
But if it is true that in Comfort, the programming is identical, I think your decision has more to do with the roads you'll be driving on and less about the package or not. The car is stiff regardless. But compliant enough that I find myself dialing a notch of 'shock' most of the time.

I'm trying to make the same decision on dynamic. My understanding is the stiffer springs. Not so much the actual settings.
I'm just on my way to a test drive with dynamic. I'll drop back with my impressions.

Mercedes GTS Edition 1
I drove an edition 1 yesterday that has the Dynamic package, I was concerned that the ride would be too harsh, however in comfort it was fine. Dailing it up to sport there was a noticeable difference a lot more focused, I think in the UK You could even drive this in sports + on the right roads after all it is a sports cars. I put a deposit down and will collect the car next weekend. The one I have bought has done 3,000 miles and has never been driven in the rain. I could have bought a newer GTS for less but I love the edition 1 spec especially in diamond white and with only 35 in the uk it will always be more desirable. Also I am buying from a main dealer so I will get 2 years AMG warranty

Thanks I can't wait to pick her up although I must admit I have had a couple of wobbles because this is a huge purchase for me, the most I have spent before is £55,000

But I think it speaks volumes about this car that it's the first one in decades to ignite enough passion in me to cross the 6-figure price threshold and throw caution to the wind. Like Tom Cruise said in Risky Business, "sometimes you just have to say, what the f%#k". Fingers crossed. But I sure as heck intend to enjoy the ride.
