Who's getting one?

Well, I would want that
AN ECU tune will take the car to 600HP+ and with the curb weight of 3,395–3,461 lb it should be pretty agile.
The move to smaller, lighter and high performance engines is the trend in Germany.
And a lighter car can do great with a smaller engine; as evidenced with your GT3

you think a tune only will take it to 600 hp?
the 5.5L tuned get around 650hp but they have a lot bigger displacement. 4L vs 5.5L ?
tune or not , it will never sound like a gt3.

...as for a $200K price, that's probably on the low side IMO but who cares, thats $100k less than my SLS BS cost and will most likely run circles around an SLS BS when it is released.

Weistec is already working on the DCT clutch packs so eventually we will see 1000+ hp GTs but in the begining we will have to settle for 800 or so.....and yes as soon as I take delivery of mine it will be shiped to Weistec for headers, downpipe, tune and turbo upgrades.

I will take that bet and any other bet you want. Its going to be a model year 2019. FYI the first AMG GTs will be model year 2016's so there is no way they will relase a BS model in the second year of a production run. 2008 CLK BS was released in the 6th year of the W209 model run, SL65 BS was released in 5th year of the R 230 SL body model run, C BS was sort of an anomoly it was released in the 4th year of the W204 model run but only the 2nd year of the coupe, SLS BS was realeased in 4th year of SLS run. I have owned a few BS's and get some good inside info.

All very truw, Weistec has taken their 5.5 up close to 1000hp. The GTs 4.0 has potential to get close to 900hp however the DCT trans can not handle that much power. U til they develop some heavy duty clutch packs 800-850 will be the limit. The DCT trans in the GT is the same as what is in my SLS BS and my SLS BS is maxed out at about 850hp due to that being the most load the trans can hold without blowing up.

You guys can wait but your will be waiting more than a year or two. Lets put it this way, you guys could buy one now and finance it for 48 months and it would be paid off around the same time the BS will hit the streets. Let's just put it this way, I speak with people at AMG on a fairly regular basis. I questioned the only guy in the United States to take delivery of an SLS BS before me about the GT BS and he told me "Don't wait" , you will be waiting a long time and he has an Edition 1 on order as well because he said he does not want to wait. you guys can speculate all you want but I am getting my info from AMG insiders I was contacted a year ago by upper management at AMG asking if I wanted one of the first US bound GT's...before the car was even announced to the public they contacted me and offered me one, so trust me, my sources are good.

I might get one in 3 years when the price will be more sensible, if I still
like it. One things for sure the sound will still do it for me. and as for GT3
sounding better ...

The gt3 sounds amazing, but the AMG V8 is a league of their own, the 6.2 once upon a time was the journalists favorite motor all over the world. The Porsche 6 banger is no doubt the best in its class but only in its class. Long live AMG and their legendary power plants.

Well you're untitled to your opinion but I'm afraid you mistaken. I guarantee you if gt3 races by as well as new amg. Most people will be in awe of the gt3. It's sound will simply overwhelms the sound of a v8. Both in volume and character. It's the racey sound. 9000 rpm red line. The sound is insane and literally sounds like a race car. The amg sounds like just any old muscle car. Obviously better than the north American v8s but still similar. And not at all a race car sound.
Actually there are other high end n/a that easily sound better than the amg 6.2. Aston Martin v12 sound demolishes the amg. And the maceration as well.
The amg sound is just too quiet to stand out. You can't hear it unless you hard on the gas. Now the also blackberries I'm sure will sound great but it's $100k more than a gt3 so it better sound amazing.
It's a good sound but there's just not enough of it.
Ps sorry about autocorrect

I do alot of tracking events every summer, many of where the cars of choice are GT3's, I have driven the 4.0 on a race course mainly because a good friend of mine has one and we are tracking buddies, the GT3 is amazing and a much better track car than my SLS, it sounds incredible, but the Porsche guys which some are snobs, area amazed at the SLS, the sounds it generates from behind and from the car appraoching down the straights. Many times I have been on thte race course by myself, and when I pull back into the pit area, they are all giggling as they can hear this V8 through the whole 5km track, every throttle application and dpwn shift, agreed that most of the other 6.2 are toned down in the sound department, but in the SLS it is Loud. I also want to say that the GT3 is louder than the SLS for sure, but we are comparing apples and oranges and they both give me rush but in different ways, either way I dont think you could go wrong....whatever "sings" to you as they say

I saw the GT in Queens NY two weeks ago.... The interior is fabulous (except for th iPad screen stuck in the dash....though it is a little lower in the dash than some of the other ones).
It looks much much better in person... All the way around. It needs an exhaust (supersprint) to sound better... Turbos ruin the sound of the v8.
The AMG rep said that nothing more powerful would be out anytime soon...
They put a lot of work into this car.... I just wish that the top would go down....
Would I buy it over one of the hotter 911s....? Not sure. The new Targa can look pretty nice and I can still stuff kids in the back. (Clearly I'm not looking to track it)
I'd hate to think about resale....
But........ I'm still thinking about it.
