When walking behind my car, the rear hatch opens without me pushing the button. Is this normal? Does the rear hatch have a hands free operation? Sometimes I pass my foot under the rear of the car and the rear hatch seems to respond and opens. I don't know if it's designed to do this or it just happens.

I read over the owner's manual and did not see this featured explained. So I'm wondering if this is a standard feature or the hatch is opening randomly.

By design. The idea is that if your hands are full, you can just pass your foot underneath the rear and it will pop open. Look at page 79 in the owners manual.
