Your thoughts AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package

Hey Guys, I am in the process of building out a GTS and I do intended on tracking the car, but it will serve primarily as a daily driver, does it really make the car that much more uncomfortable?

Thanks,

I cant speak for a car without (never driven) but I have zero complaints about the package and the streets where I live. The car is very planted in turns and twists and has hardly, if any lean. I would give up the negligible amount of lost comfort for this option. I do believe all the professional tests have been with cars having this option. To me its a must for spirited street driving and/or track use. Since you are tracking it, its a must have and then for the street just lighten up the shock firmness and you get the best of both worlds. I hate yaw in a car.

To equate the loss of the option would be like your 991 Turbo S without PDCC. Furthermore you get a better HP peak range in manual and race modes with this option.

Also like to how this affects comfort. I would imagine it should give a broader range, so comfort should be more comfortable and race mode should be more stiff. Would like to hear from someone who's tried both. I'm mostly street driving and comfort is more important than stiffness.

Sorry if this is a silly question but how will I know if my car is equipped with the AMG Dynamic Plus package? I live in the Philippines and I bought my car brand new from an independent importer here. I never got a complete list of options from the seller so I'm not sure now (seller also is not sure).

Only sign that I may have the package is my Steering wheel is in full Dynamica. Other than that, I don't know where else to look.

Thanks!

You will know if there is a "Race" option on control.

What does someone pay in tax there for this car?

Okay "Race Option" I have so that clears it.

I paid around $275,000 for my unit here in Manila. I would say $150,000 for the unit, $100,000 for tax, and the rest importers profit and other costs.

Thanks ROMEO550!

Yes, you definitely want the Dynamic Plus Package. If you have the Dynamic Plus Package the dash's gauges are also yellow. You still have Race Mode even without the Dynamic Plus Package - but with it, Race and Sport + have revised chassis and powertrain response. This is from AMG's Brochure:

I have the Dynamic package and I loved it at the track. It is rather stiff on the street though, and the seats that came with mine hardly have any padding, so driving long distances on less than perfect roads is not the most comfortable, but tolerable. I have a 2009 GT-R that I track, and it is more comfortable on the road, but a lot more noisy from the mechanical noises it makes. I track it as well and would not want a car that has a soft suspension. I always drive the GT-S in Comfort mode on the street, and get my rocks off at the track in Race mode. I occasionally show passengers what it does in Race mode on the street, but then revert back to Comfort mode. It depends on what you want, but for me track performance is paramount so I would not order the car without the Dynamic package. If I did not track, I would not get it, but I am a person who drives at reasonable speeds on the road and then flat out and fast on track.

I also drive in Comfort Mode most of the time - especially with the suspension in Comfort Mode. I have yet to track the car and doubt that I will, in part because I was spoiled for many many years driving a real open wheel race car - something that is totally different from a streetcar even as good as the GTS. However, there are some mountain roads close to where I live that I do take the car on and put it in Sport + Mode and that is a real hoot! the car stays in lower gears beautifully and I just let it do its thing without using the paddle shifters. There is a huge amount of mechanical grip in this car.

I agree that the suspension is a bit rough even in Comfort Mode on some city streets - but it is fine on the freeways around where I live in Southern California. I have never even used Race Mode. I guess I should try it. Is Race Mode solely manual shifting? or can you also let it shift automatically?

You can let it shift automatically but it pretty much holds the gears til redline.

The car's behavior is much more aggressive in Race mode than Sport+ mode. When I had it at the track for the first time, I drove it in Sport+ in the morning to try it out, but felt the car was holding me back in some way. Then in the afternoon after I had gotten used to the car, I put it in Race mode, and wow, the car seemed to come alive, as it put down a lot more power coming out of the corners as it went to redline every shift. I let it shift automatically all day and never used the paddles. The car downshifts aggressively too in Race mode. It was a real blast on track, and I would not deny myself the fun of driving it. I've driven lots of stuff, including Formula 2000, and all kinds of things are fun on the track. GT-S was a shoe that fit me very well on track, and I can see why Randy Pobst gave it such a good review. I was running in a group of advanced drivers only at an open lapping day, no run groups, on and off the track as you please. Everyone was impressed with the car, and it was fast. And it sounds really, really good when you can wind it out to the max for 30 minutes with no speed limits.

What seats did you get which have little padding?

If you dont have the dynamic plus package, then you have the dynamic minus package. Why would you want that?

It is stiff, but that's the spirit of the car, i think.

reopening this for members who don't have this package vs those who do like myself... I have a car in mind (17) with carbon ceramics but it doesn't have the Dynamic Package which I have on the ED1. I don't care about the small lift in power because Ill tune my next GTS too. The question here is how important are those engine mounts? I have had 5 Porsche Turbos...2 with it and 3 without (well the 2003 never had a chance LOL). So I'm trying to figure out if its a deal breaker. Its the only car I can find in white with CCB's.

I don't know if there is a difference in how the car feels on city streets or freeways. Is with or without more comfortable? The real difference (from what MB is portraying) is that the car with the dynamic mounts handles better in cornering - I assume high speed cornering is what is meant. How often are you doing that? I don't know if it makes a difference on freeway on and off ramps I have not driven a model that does not have it. When I spec'd my car I wanted it but if I hadn't, would I miss it? Probably not.

Vic -

Ive driven both, and ultimately decided on a 17' Without it. The car is getting the Brabus B40 600 package (on order) but your free to take my car for a spin if you'd like beforehand! I wanted the CCB's more than options I'd wipe with a tune.

So after driving both, what is the difference that you found between a GTS with the dynamic sport package and one without. What differences could you discern from the engine and transmission having dynamic mounting?

As far as the mounts? I honestly couldnt tell. The powerband? To me it seems as if it simply holds the power higher up in the range - which, is what its meant to do. but that being said, (even stop light racing) I feel that its not something I need, let alone feel, for the reasons Vic said: if your plan is to tune the car? Dont waste your money - and that was exactly my plan from the start, so I sought out a vehicle with other options I knew I'd use. I feel that perhaps under hard use, at very high speed on the track one would be able to feel the upside of the mounts, (if there were any) but from what I could discern on the street, there was nothing. Hope that helps!

The dynamic package is meant for improved performance on a road race course. If one is not tracking the car, then it is not really required. I track my GT-S, so the dynamic pack and aero pack were the first options I picked. You certainly don't need Pilot Sport Cup tires, increased negative camber, and stiffer dampers for typical driving on the street. Then again the new AMG GT-R is designed for ultimate performance on a race track, but it certainly won't stop people who will never drive on the track from buying them.
