Raw gasoline smell after driving...

After a drive and I park in the garage, I smell raw gasoline. There are no leaks noticeable. Dealer said it was normal. The smell goes away after a couple of hrs.

The smell is coming from the driver's fender area. Anyone else experience this?

Who at your dealer said it's normal? If it was anyone besides an AMG mechanic I would be asking him. Mine never smells of fuel and I consider that normal. Unless these cars have some type of fuel evaporative or recovery system that has malfunctioned in your case I can't imagine what might be the cause.

Keep us posted.

Patric,

The good thing is that it does go away eventually. It usually takes several hrs to dissipate. Like I said, they kept the car overnight and said they couldn't find anything abnormal.

I'll keep you posted. I have no intentions of taking it back to the dealer unless it gets worse.

Same issue with mine, has been going on for about 3 months. Both AMG specialists at the dealer checked the car out and didn't find anything. A friend of mine has an Edition 1 that I notice the same smell when I get close to it, he took his to a different dealer and was told the same thing.

I guess we just live with it. I play ping pong in the garage and it's pretty strong smelling for several hrs. It didn't do it when I first purchased the car.

Where is the smell coming from on your car?

Ok, I guess it's a burning oil smell and not gasoline. I was told that it's coming from a oil tank vent ...

Ive noticed an oil smell but not gas... I have checked underneath and opened the hood but nothing is there. I'm still gonna take to my buddy's Benz facility to get it on a rack.

I do not have a fuel smell. I do have a metal wear smell. It is like brakes or transmission wear smell. I called the dealer. They blamed cosmoline for the smell. I don't know what it is.

Frustrating.....
Seems like you'll get the standard MB answer when it comes to this car "it's normal"

Hope everyone didn't pay extra for this option.

In all seriousness this is not normal and should not be acceptable to anyone.

Good luck!

I was told by an independent mechanic that it's the dry sump venting. You will not hear of this problem on the C 63 with the same motor. They all have oil pans and are not dry sump set ups.

I've learned to live with it. The smell goes away after about an hr.

Hey if you can live it that's all that matters for you.

At 150k I'm not willing to smell gas. Heck I wouldn't accept it from my Subaru, but that's just me. Maybe I exspect too much:

I recommend everyone who has this issue take their car to their dealer and request that they..AMG open a incident report. This will ensure AMG gets to work on what the root cause is and develops a resolution.

FWIW: I have had a E1 since April 2015 and haven't experienced the problem.....yet.

Not good at all.

Can you tell at all what side or where smell is coming from? There was a member here that had a microscopic hole in his fuel line. Or it was pinched at a clamp. They replaced line and I believe that was the end.

I know I'm captain obvious here, but Have they replaced all fuel lines ?

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
my friend had a 911 with gas smell, they finally took the car back. I think it has to do with the fuel tank venting

Tell the MB guy that he can't get out of car for 1 hour windows closed
Reminds me of Travolta in a "Civil Action " where he offers the poisoned ground water at settlement talks...

Sorry to hear your issues.
You need to escalate the matter above the dealer if they are giving you that BS answer that all is normal.
If they have been able to duplicate it i.e. smell the gas that bad in the car then it should be easy for them to have another GT/GTS they can start and drive at the same time to compare.

My GT S also smells rather strongly in the garage after being driven, but it's not gas that I smell. It would rather be something like heated cosmoline or oil. I could also believe the "venting of dry-sump" story...

When an additional alarm was installed, the car was started/stopped several times in a row without being driven and then I smelled gas.

But inside the car I never smell any gas or other bad odor...

Mine also smells like burnt cosmoline or oil after driving but it's not even that strong and not much different than some Porsches I have owned.

Mine only smells after driving if I have been driving it hard (the way it likes ) and then shut it off. It cracks and pops and the fans run for quite a some time while it is cooling down and bringing temperatures to OK levels while finishing the heat extraction.

Cosmoline has been used for many decades to protect our beauties from rust crossing the oceans. Harmless (when used as directed ). I think it was even used in WW2.
