Best way to remove center hub caps

I want to replace my center wheel caps bought some cool matte black caps but I am afraid to scratch or damage the originals if I pry them off.
What is the best way to or how can I remove the center hub caps without removing the tires is there a trick any advice would be great.

Thanks ... Dr. G

Use a plastic wedge...or a small screw driver covered with paper tape...

I just use 3m double sided tape, apply a good amount, then pull straight out and clean residue. Much safer than prying.

This is why I love MBWorld what a great resource Thanks Turbotonee took your advice I easily poped off the center MB star ring, however (and this may be a dumb question) I have the 19"/20" AMG Cross-Spoke Forged Wheels-Titanium there is a larger ring that is around the MB star center ring this I was not able to pull off with the 3M Tape. Does this come off ? New caps I have need this to be romoved as well to snap in I could not pull it off easily and did not want to force it any advice ??

Just apply some mild soap around the outter ring and use the same technique and it should come off. The caps are held on with a rubber O-ring and sometimes they dry up and "stick" to the wheel.

Got it figured out rims have a plastic cup like ring tool that is located in the rear left boot compartment. The cap fits over the outer ring and un screws then center caps can pop out for your change out ...

You have those rare forged mesh wheels with the cup lock. My CLS came with those rims. Requires a weird socket cup to loosen.

Most Mercedes come with the caps that everyone on this thread thought you had.

Definitely DO NOT eat at the restaurant in the tower. Must go up and look for sure... But food is not good. You will regret it. There are so many amazing restaurants downtown, tons of culture.

If you are into Museums? History? 20th anniversary, you have to be at least 42, so you guys are not too old for some Canada's Wonderland... Hit up some the awesome roller coasters we have.

Dr Graphx. Can you show a picture of the tool you used to unscrew the center caps? I was able to unscrew mine by hand but want to tighten more with the tool. Can't seem to find it anywhere. I have the cross spoke wheels too i just put in my E63

Center Cap Tool

In my GTS the Center Cap Tool is located in the boot cubbie where the fuses and flat tire pump is it was nesting in a slot behind the door kind of tricky to find dealer had to show me where it was hiding (photo attached) hope this helps...

Seem's you're developing a sense of humor. Good. That's the first step in getting everything into perspective again.

In case anyone finds this thread and needs this cap tool -

Mercedes Wheel Spanner
Part# A000-581-00-00

I needed one because my S63 Coupe came with the standard wheels as a CPO. I bought a pull off set of 10-spoke forged wheels off Ebay, but they did not come with the spanner. Never thought about it until I took it to get new tires. Both the shop who installed the forged wheels and the shop that replaced the tires had one on hand, but I figured I should have one in the trunk...

They are not expensive, about $45 delivered.

You may wish to use a small rubber suction cup. Thats how my tech used to replace them on my 2015 CLS a while ago. It worked like a charm.

use plastic gloves, and dont over tighten when you put them on, they dont need to be too tight

Any more information? I went to the tire store yesterday due to noticing a nail in one of the tires on my 2021 GLE63S with the 22" forged wheels. They did not know who to get the aluminum cover over the lug bolts off. The tool for removing the plastic star center cap was in the glove box in my vehicle. Once that is removed, there is no apparent way to remove the aluminum cover over the lug bolts. I went to the dealership yesterday (Saturday), but their service personnel had gone home, and the delivery guys had no idea. There is no place to pry, and these are VERY expensive wheels. I'll go to the dealership when I have time in a few days, but it seems likely that somebody here knows. A photo(s) would also be very helpful to me and everyone else who searches and finds this thread.

Beware of the tire shop that loots your metal ring on the caps, that clamps cap down. Had it happen twice at dealer.
