Solar Beam Yellow AMG GTS Price and Thoughts

Ok guys, I found another GTS I like, but want to know your thoughts on the lifetime of the Carbon Ceramic brakes and the re-sale value of the Solar Beam Yellow color. I personally like it because it's rare, and I have seen one in my hometown or even seen a GTS on the road. I don't need the CC's, but just wanted to get anyone's thoughts and price I should pay. Are these '16 GTS' going to take a dump when '17's come out soon?

I'll just say this. Car was built almost 2 years ago and there were issues with early cars.

As for the yellow I'm not sure I ever understood the huge premium, which has affected this car at 140 ask. So if you love the color, than it's worth it to you.But I Still think 130 is more a correct number as paint and ceramics really put this car at a high ask new.

These cars have held well and will surely go down in value when new model years arrive. Same as any other car, but I don't think they will take a "dump". Lol.

AMGBEASTMODE 07-30-2016 10:31 AM

Thanks for the input, let's see what they'll do.. I need to:smash: and see what happens!

If I am not mistaken, this car was originally bought by someone in Naples.
The owner drove it for less than 500 miles lol and traded it at a local non MB dealer. Nothing was wrong with the car by the way, he is one of those that buys and sells cars like we buy shoes.
Maybe there are 2 like this in Florida but the car is basically fully loaded (around 170ish sticker).
Get a carfax and a service history from the dealer to see if that is the car.
The asking price is on the high end of the scale but I am sure you can negotiate 5K less. if that is the color you love, there are not many of them so you'd better jump on it.

AMGBEASTMODE 07-30-2016 01:51 PM

yeah, the guy owns the cigarette boat racing team and made an AMG boat to match it, pretty awesome. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=...69987401258871

we shall see, but don't know if they'll budge enough for me.

Gfunk808 07-30-2016 07:22 PM

Also a fan of the color and looking. My thoughts are that you could probably replicate it with a high-quality vinyl wrap at half the price. Additionally, my understanding is that you never make your money back on most options, particularly special paint....

With two new variants of the model coming out, I would also expect prices to drop as demand softens. There are plenty of threads here of people who have waited instead of buying used.

Solar beam yellow is stunning. Yes I'm biased as I cancelled my Selenite Gray when I saw Solar in person. If you don't want attention stick with a more conservative hue. Great looking car heavenly optioned would be $160+ for a 2017. Lot of critics here, the prices are not dropping. The R will be $200K+. That's a fair price for major car market.

AMGBEASTMODE 08-06-2016 10:30 AM

Thanks for the feedback guys, we couldn't come to terms on my trade and the car price. So, I'm just waiting..........

Gfunk808 08-06-2016 01:06 PM

Smart move – good things come to those who wait ;-)

Life is to short to wait for the GT-R or C. Buy now and then trade or sell in a year..

Amen brother. I ordered car in March and am looking at an October delivery. Killing me......

Gfunk808 08-14-2016 01:46 AM

Just as an update – quick check on Cars.com and there are about half a dozen GTS asking below 120K. Give it another month and Id guess they will be down to 115.

AMGBEASTMODE 08-17-2016 10:27 PM

I'm going to take one more chance on this dealer and see if they come down. MSRP was 173k. The owner of the car was the pres/chairman of cigarette racing, which is cool but not that big of deal for resale value..

emericr 08-18-2016 09:49 AM

Good luck and make it happen :). You only live once and if you can get the car for a reasonable price, then it's a no brainer.

You should be able to grab that car for under $130k, if you pay over $130K you're nuts. Kindly remind the dealer that 2017's will be hitting the showrooms within 45 days or less baring any delays and that a 2017 base model GT can be had for $115k. As I posted on another thread yesterday there are over 300 GT's listed on Cars.com right now, about 100 of which are pre-owned. Model year end combined with the winter months around the corner and a surplus of inventory makes it a buyers market.

Thanks Jrcart! They're still not budging, mostly I'm assuming b/c of my '16 C63 AMG S I'm trying to trade (only 4,600 miles). They came up 10K on my trade but wouldn't come down on the price of their car. So, I may try and look at just buying their car with no trade ALL IN including taxes, fee's, etc sub $130k

This might sound crazy but if there is a Carmax near you drive your C63 S over to them and get a buy quote from them. I recently sold them my GMC Denali dually and the number they paid me was stupid high, s high that I didn't even wait to think about it and I didn't have a ride home. I took the money and haled an Uber out of there lol. I then recently recommended CarMax to a buddy trying to move his E93 M3 and they gave him way more than they BMW dealership was going to give him as a trade on his new 2016 M4, he was thousands ahead even after factoring him losing the sales tax credit on the trade. I guess it's worth a shot if you live close to a CarMax, it took them about 40 minutes to appraise my truck and cut me a check.

Gfunk808 08-22-2016 09:23 PM

Just to reiterate the idea from earlier, why don't you purchase one of the lower priced cars on the market (now hovering in the mid teens, as predicted) and spend five grand to have a nice yellow wrap applied?

Carmax is a joke around my area, the local dealers have a good trade price or even decent cash price, they just don't have a car I want! They sold the yellow one over the weekend, I'll just wait patiently, it's almost football season so that'll keep me pre-occupied until something else shows up.

AMGBEASTMODE 09-10-2016 11:29 PM

i found another Solar Beam Yellow (not on the market yet) 178,230 was the original MSRP, every option possible, Carbon Fiber everything, Carbon ceramics, etc.. independent dealer is offering at $134,500.

Thoughts??

If anyone is interested, I dropped the price on my C63 AMG S listed in the classifieds

I doubt your price buddy. The paint job alone is $10K, no way anyone would sell for $134K lol.

sack5000 09-11-2016 03:10 PM

The AMG GTS is a bust. I couldn't even sit in the driver's seat comfortably. And the power sucks for the cost. I dumped the car as all others are doing. My C63S is fast as ***** with the normal comforts.

When I took the GTS for service the car had to be backed out of the drive lane, so silly.

AMGBEASTMODE 09-11-2016 03:29 PM

Sack5000 you may eat your words, but we shall see. I'm well aware of the $9,900 Solar Beam Yellow price tag, thanks for clarifying for me though...

Why couldn't you fit in the GTS? I've been in and out of them many of times on the track at the AMG Academy, I'm 6 ft 220 lbs
