2016 AMG GTS Factory Demo with 8,000 miles!

Hey guys,

I've been eyeing the AMG GTS for some time now especially in the Solar Beam Yellow paint. My sales guy just got word that they are getting in a factory demo AMG GTS in the Solar Beam Yellow but it has 8,000 miles... Currently I'm leasing a 2015 S63 AMG Sedan and I'm upside down about $25K. My sales guy said that I can swap in my S63 and get into the factory demo AMG GTS with no downpayment, 36 months, and 12K miles per year. Payments will be around the same as my S63 ($2,600). Do you think its a good deal?

The factory demo AMG GTS is heavy loaded ($173K) with interior/exterior carbon, Ceramic Brakes, and etc... BUT the car has 8,000 miles! There are any concerns with leasing a factory demo GTS with such high mileage? I'm scared the car was beat around on the track.

Hard to tell if it's a good deal, you told us what the S63's deal is. What do they want for the GTS without a trade? My gut says they have about $10k more on their side of the ledger than you.

I've never leased a car, so I'm not sure why miles would matter at all. You'll simply turn the car in when the lease is over, right?

Also, if the car was beat around the track, that may be a great thing. The engine is properly broken in and any issues have already been fixed. (BMW is/was having problems with turbo engines and American customers not driving them hard enough to properly break them in)

NO WORRIES!!

They will certify the car, update all of the software and correct any service bulletins, etc to the latest and greatest.

My suggestion is to be sure they replace the tires and brakes with new ones since they are dubbed "consumables" and could otherwise require service before the lease runs out.

The other consideration is to have a NEW 2017 spec'd for lease and see what the "dif" is.

Afterall you are only "borrowing it" for the term of the lease.

Regards

Good call JSwan724, if the rotors end up needing replacement, my guess would be well over 10k. That shouldn't happen, but checking the wear on the carbon ceramics discs would be prudent.

Thanks guys for the reply. I'll make sure to check the tires and brakes when I see the car. Anything else I should ask my dealer about the history of tge factory demo car? Was there any recalls for the 2016 AMG GTS? Any warranty items that need to be addressed before I take delivery?

Although I may be mistaken, I have a memory that factory demo cars are ones that are given out to journalists for all of their testing and driving. Another words, they are really put through the ringer! They get a lot of track time besides just regular modulated daily driver use. I don't know how much prior use the car had or what kind of use would inform your decision in that the car would still have the factory warranty etc. You might make them give you a new set of tires though!

There was a recall involving the driveshaft but only 135 cars were affected: http://autoweek.com/article/recalls/...aft-separation

Even with the 8k on the clock now, add the 36k and you're still under the 50k mileage coverage so warranty would be fine.

When you say upside down, do you mean you have 25k left on the car to pay off or that the market rate for your S is 25k less than what you can sell it for? If it's the latter, then yes, it sounds like a good deal.

A 173k car with a 58% residual and 0.0024 MF comes out to be 2,942/mo including taxes. Those were the latest lease figures I got from MB last wk (though 58% residual does seem a bit high for what MB typically offers for 36/12 leases - usually about 55%).

Ask the dealer what the sale price would be on the car, money factor, and residual. Plug that into an app called Leasematic and it'll spit you out a monthly payment including taxes. Then you can figure out if it's a good deal or not.

.
The market rate is 25K less than what I can sell it for. I think the payoff on my S63 is $120K and the market rate is $95K.

MB has ****ty MF. I came from the BMW world where my lease MF was 0.00130 (nearly 1/2).

Even now, BMW is offering 0.9% up to 72mos for finance.

Well with the trade you'll save a lot on sales tax but you lose that if you lease.

You really should look at 48 months finance at 1% with the trade compared to lease.

Fwiw you will not see these interest rates anymore in our lifetime. It's a gift to all of us who have gluttonous car needs....

I'd look at low rates at a local credit union etc, that lease factor seems brutal!

I've heard that AMG leasing has considerably higher MF than traditional Mercedes leasing rates.

You could get a brand new AMG GT S in Solarbeam with full interior and exterior carbon, Dynamic Plus, CCBs, and Burmester sound for $4,500 down + $2,600/month for 36 months.

IMO the payments on a similarly optioned car with 8,000 miles would need to be much, much lower for this to make sense.

You'll want to carfully review the official MB AMG certification and inspection report. It will show how much the remaining life is on the brakes, rotors, tires, etc.

For example, if at 8k miles only 1/2 of the useful life is remaining you have a issue to address before the deal is struck.

I agree! Your taking a big hit on the S63 which is jacking up the payment. I just leased a '16 GTS, MSRP 143,000 for 36 mos, 10k miles, taxes up front for 2,068 per mo.

I just got back from my dealer. Right now I'm negative $26,000 to get out of my S63. After working the numbers on the trade in for the 2016 GTS ($171,000) with 8,000 miles on the clock.
30 months, 12k Miles, $2900 per month, and zero drive off.

I know Wraith payments are $2,400 with 25K down payment for 48 months with 2,500 miles per year. For the AMG GTS I'm getting 12,000 miles per year for 30 months and 0 down payment

I put a lot of miles on my daily cars every year. Since the car already has 8,000 miles and I'm about to add another 30,000 miles. To me its not worth buying the car and having to sell it later. I wish I didn't such a big negative on the S63...

Yeah that's killing the number for sure. Seems like your getting wholesaled on that ACV from dealer.

As much as I like 63's, the depreciation is just insane for how versatile the cars are.
