GTS or GT3 purchase?

Ok, I've read through all the pages on here about everyone talking about the GT3 and TTS vs the GTS, but if you had a choice right now, what would you purchase and why? I've been looking for a new car to enjoy and the GTS and the GT3 are the 2 that I narrowed it down to(the tts is higher than I want to spend). I don't track my cars, maybe the drag strip once a year for fun, I just cruise and enjoy the experience of them, so the GT3 might not be for me,, but, that car is beautiful and 9000rpm is amazing. I find that the GTS is more practical, more amenities in the cabin and maybe more comfortable. I find that some angles I love the look of the GTS but some angles I don't, just not a big fan of the rear(no, I don't want a GTC, not another drop top for me,ever). The GT3 looks gorgeous from all angles all the time. My biggest concern is the power of the 2, 475 for the GT3 and harder(more expensive) to make more power, is it enough stock? The GTS has the twin turbos, so easier to tune and make more power. I have a 14' E63s with a piggyback tune, , so with that kind of power now, will I want more later with either of these 2 cars? I've read all posts and watched every damn YouTube video on both, lol, but really undecided. Thank you in advance for your opinions.

yea what he said. the gt3 is pretty much defined as the track car. if you're not going to track it, you're losing out on a lot of what makes that car special. i previously had the n/a 6.2 and was craving more power hence my decision to go back to turbos with the gts. a simple tune and you're 100+hp/tq.

i was shopping a tts for a bit too but here in orange county, porsches are a dime a dozen. decided to go the path less traveled and couldn't be happier!

If you watch videos online, you should have seen that the GTS beat the GT3RS in a straightline. Since you are OK with tuning, it should be close to TTS power for 70K less.
The 9K rpm redline is cool but the rumble with the open exhaust on the GTS starts at 3K and you will enjoy it more often that the 9K redline of the GT3.
I am sure the P forum will tell you to get the 911GT3 but I can honestly say that the GTS really makes you feel special and the GT3 is just a dialed up 911.
If you splurge for the upgraded interior, it is a step above the P cars and comparable to 225K+ supercars.
Finally, the fact that you rarely see a GTS versus the sea of 911s out there is also an intangible in favor of the benz.
Post a pic when you get one

I owned a 2015 GT3 and have the GTS- they really are great cars with unique advantages.

If I may sum it up easily; the GTS is a street car that can be tracked and the GT3 is a track car that can be street driven.

GT3 aspects: incredible 9k rpm redline and amazing LeMans exhaust noise. Its a tremendously flat car in the bends with point and shoot steering. It is quite possibly the easiest rwd car Ive owned to launch. It does indeed require a driver to be on it at 8/10ths or more (to max it out)... and Cali freeways are not ideal for this car of course. The 991 chassis with its longer nose and wider track and low roof line really shine and the car provides an incredible amount of confidence in all types of challening driving situations. The interior of the GT3 is good, functional, and comfortable. Its not as advanced as the GTS but also doesnt feel as constricting.

The GTS aspects: Well most of you here will echo me and even add to this so Ill just disclose that up front. The GTS has a great sound too but its more of a deep throaty roar. The steering is practically perfect and I would honestly say its better than the GT3. The chassis is well balanced although I felt more connected to the GT3 especially at the limits. The ride of the GTS can be more stiff in even normal situations but still has a very neutral feel to it on higher speed turns. I like the GTS interior better as its feel is slightly more luxurious in nature but it does feel more tight than the GT3.

Speedwise the GTS is faster while the GT3 (to me) can get out of the box better with less wheelspin. Id say it would be toss up on the track but since you dont track the car, the GTS would probably be the better daily driver with its higher tq ratings and more usable street personality. Value; zero question the GT3 holds that crown without a doubt. Honestly you can't go wrong with either car and I only have the GTS because it came out after the GT3 and fit MY needs better.

My 2015:

Thanks for all the comments, I feel that the GTS would definitely suit me better for overall performance and driving experience. I just can't get over the looks of that GT3, she's a beauty. Vic, your old GT3 looks gorgeous. The only reason I was thinking Porsche, since I'm a big fan of MB, is because I have an older 2001 996 convertible 6 speed, blue on blue with the saddle interior, only 18,000 miles on it. That's the car I will be selling and replacing. I'm thinking a blue GTS will look good in my garage in place of that car, and found some with the saddle color interiors. Just have to decide now on a new 16 or 17.

I think a 991TT would be a better comparison to the GTS. The TT is so much more livable as an everyday driver and you can get a low mileage one for less then a new GTS.

That is a very valid point, bones.
If I were to spend $150K on a vehicle, I would have to flip a coin between the TT and the GTS.

I have both, its fund to switch back and forth and enjoy both cars' comparative advantages.

I just traded my 2014 991 TT for the GTS. The TT is definitely more versatile especially for all weather driving. If I didn't have my jeep for the winter I would not have gotten the GTS. I drove my TT in all road conditions with Michelin pilot alpin tires and it was awesome

Yes, I agree that the TT would be a better comparison in driving and amenities, but new vs new, the TT is so much more and out of my price range that I feel comfortable spending. Plus, the TT 6 needs and exhaust right away to get a nice sound, where the GT3 NA 6 sounds pretty mean stock. I mention that because I think an exhaust note definitely adds to the, "thrill of the drive". I'm really leaning toward the GTS because, like others have said, of the low volume and newer car, haven't seen one in my area at all. I have P cars everywhere around my area and if you are not a fan or car enthusiast, you can't tell the difference between models. VIC, please stop posting pics of your cars, not making it any easier.. lol. Gorgeous TTS.

GT3....better value...reliability...dealer network......look never gets old......would you rather have a 20 year old GT3 or GTS......that answers it...

High reving low torque are great for track duty (GT3) but get tiring as a street car. Kind of like drivng a muscle car with 4:56 gears. Since your not going to track the car the GTS has more flexibility and refinement. The 911TS would be an alternative but with equal equipment is about 25k compreibley equiped not that that's an issue in this price range.
You will get more looks and waives in the GTS than the porsche and it doesn't have the boy racer spoiler that says look at me.
I'm biased. I love my GTS.

AMG GT S
Late last year I was going to buy a 991 gt3, I had a 997 carrera 4s...
The other car in the back of my mind was the AMG GT s...
For a few months of searching...the 991 was a pain in the *** to purchase due to limited availability and $20k + price markup on pre-owned builds that didn't match my wants...
So I bought a 2016 AMG GT s... it is sooo much fun to drive, the exhaust and dual clutch paddles are a blast, the steering is precise and the torque is crazy (my first car like that)
I drive it in sports plus mode 100% of the time, I'm in vancouver, there are three I've seen in seven months. Talked to one guy that bought his at same time as me, he had a porche 911 before also, and he loves the AMG gts
For street only hands down AMG gts, if tracking I'd go with the Gt3
(Ive had my AMG GT s for 7 months and at 8,000km, it's been perfect
And the $, here in Canada with our slinky/sinky dollar, base is 150k and add a few options and you drive out at 165k Canadian with a car that is incredibly optioned, compared with when you build a 911 gt3 your at near 200k...if you are able to secure a build
Cheers

Ok guys, I found a 2016 GT3 with 223 miLes on it, sapphire blue, carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber interior and the 12k carbon fiber seats, axle lift system, high end stereo option, car is completely clear wrapped, loaded. So its Blue with the yellow calipers, and black interior with yellow seat belts. I drove it and fell in love, had to have it. $160,000 out the door. I'm picking it up Monday afternoon. I just can't see spending this kind of money and have a car depreciate so much like the GTS will. Value and resale is what made my decision, 2 great cars, but 1 will hold its value a lot better.

as I posted; no chance the GTS competes with the GT3 from a resale perspective. Congrats, SB is an amazing color with the CCB contrast it will be an eye catcher.

Thanks VIC, I'll post some pics next week. And thank you all, for all the comments, I honestly couldn't have gone wrong with either car.

That's cool, sounds really nice...
As for depreciation, here in Canada it's different... Your car...
160k us x 1.30 cad = 208,000 x 6% duty = 220,480 + 5,000 for transportation plus brokerage fees, inspection.. etc = $225,480 Canadian for a slightly preowned 991 GT3 compared to 165k for a xpel wrapped well optioned brand new off the floor AMG GT S...
thats 60k more, leaves lotta room for Canada amg gt s to fall away
enjoy your car :-)

I'm not a Track Rat but...

I do agree the GT3 holds its value very well. Up here in the Frozen North You would be hard pressed to find one for much less than $300,000 CAD. I'm not sure how one can buy one at MSRP which is about 225k loaded. I drive my GTS daily and I paid much less than both those numbers. I would never dream of driving a GT3 daily and with a machine like this it needs to be driven hard and put away wet. You got a smoking deal at $160k. Smokin. At that price I would be hard pressed to say no myself. Enjoy the car, I know I will mine. To each his own.

Yes, I couldn't turn the deal down and I agree with you about ever wanting to daily drive the GT3, or the GTS for that sake. I will be keeping my 14' E63s(only 6k miles on it) and I have a brand new Ram 3500 diesel truck for daily use, so The GT3 will only be used to hit the backroads(driven hard) on weekends or some Cars and Coffee type events.
