Is anyone running upgraded turbos for the GTS

Hi, I have Eurocharged's upgraded turbos on the way to be installed by their agent in Hong Kong. The ECU will also be reflashed after swapping in the turbos.

Just wondering if anyone is running them and have any comments before I take the plunge.

BTW I am upgrading from Eurocharged ECU and TCU tunes, and Weistec downpipes and air filters.

Thanks in advance.

Question:

What do these upgrades do to your warranty and ability to obtain MB AMG flashes and upgrades?

Also, wouldn't it affect your ability to trade or sell the GTS in the future?

Just asking.......

Why is it that people ask the same question about warranty every time a mod is mentioned? The answer is always the same, you pay to play.

And what a play this car will be. Curious as to what size difference turbos will be without having to lower compression, like I believe GTR will.

Traction upgrades seem to be necessary here. Looking forward to your results.

If a dealer can detect it with their diagnostic machines, then you may have a time getting something covered under warranty. I used to work more directly with dealers years ago when I did some car brokering, and can tell you that they will try to blame a service issue on your modification if they can. Hence, no coverage/warranty issue.

But as the other forum member stated...you pay to play. You just have to know this before you do it.

Based on my research and my friends in the industry, the current turbo upgrades are not worth the money as they are only changing the impellers on one side.
Eurocharged, Weistec and Renntech all have an offering and I believe there is a reason why you do not see any advertising or videos on the dragstrip showing the performance increase. For that kind of money, I would expect to be in the mid 10s in the quarter.
I was not aware of any TCU tune on the GT.

Slightly OT, so Eurocharged, Weitec, Renntech, their ECU tunning are similar?

And by the way, if OP is in Hong Kong, warranty won't be the deal breaker...but the GT is expensive there! A Loaded GTS is $400k us there!

I asked if YOU have considered these points. So me for asking doesn't seem to be appropriate!!

I am waiting for your post about how the mean old dealer won't fix something that you screwed up by slapping parts on your AMG built motor.

https://mbworld.org/forums/c43-amg-c...-130-25-a.html

We went 10.6 in 75 degree weather....hot lapping

There are videos out too and about 15 time slips if you guys want to see them.

Thank you! Nice results. What about the lighter faster GTS?

My Weistec tune got me to 129.6mph. Traction kept me from the tens. I would buck up for the turbos if I saw speeds and times that were way better than that. I believe the turbos would give you a nice top end, but not much in the mid range.

Ddtung, please post your impression of your turbos!

My mean old dealer installed my Weistec downpipes for me, just FYI.

The thread was started to specifically ask for comments from members who have experience with the turbos. Your reply was largely irrelevant and assumed that you know something I don't.

GTS owners are grown ups who understand pay to play.

Anyone interested in the TCU tune should talk to Jerry Thornton, the tuner at Eurocharged. Tell him the idiot from HK sent you.

I still have yet to see a video of any runs of an AMG GT with upgraded turbos or even a C63 so please share.
Both Weistec and Renntech have videos of GT-S with a tune will get you 10.9 and 126 or 128 mph respectively. Runs were done on stock rubber so if you change to drags, it is not unreasonable to assume 10.7.
I will not be spending 10K for such a marginal difference in performance.
Jerry did great work on past platforms and you are in great hands with him. I look forward to your built car and see what it can do on the dragstrip or pulls against the competition.

Of course I love drag numbers. But, there is more to a car than the et it can post (but I still wanna run 10s). I would want the upgraded turbos so the gts becomes a top end racier feeling ride. Think Ferrari 458 vs Viper.

My dealership in Houston tx told me that their service department would sell me and install renntech tunes and parts. They have done it on several GTS. I'm not going to do it though. If I get bored I'll trade in for a GTR. I rather put the money toward a better car, but that's just me. Everybody is different.

My BMW dealer sold and installed a lot $ of Dinan mods for me before.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in Jerry. He visited HK a while back and flash tuned my ECU for around town torque and also did the TCU tune. The GTS now shifts like a race car. The turbo mod and tune should give it around 750 crank hp without losing low end torque. I am looking forward to it. We don't have a drag strip here so I can only give my driving impressions.

That must be with larger turbos and other associated mods. Reliability would be an issue in daily use.

Weistec has developed a new system which completely replaces the stock turbos with larger higher output turbos. I've seen them and driven in the car. Very impressive gains! They are not "officially" available to the public quite yet but they are getting close because they just added them to their website. If anyone is interested in them I can get you hooked up now.

The Weistec Engineering M177 / M178 W.4 Turbo Upgrade is the key to making the most power with the M177 and M178 engines without compromise in drivability or reliability.

The turbo upgrade, as with all W.4 Upgrades, is a comprehensive turbo upgrade that completely replaces the factory turbocharges and exhaust manifolds. The new turbochargers are ball bearing units with CNC machined billet aluminum compressor wheels rated at ~57lb/min, much higher than the stock units. The Weistec compressor covers provide mounting for the OEM wastegate actuators and is compatible with the stock charge piping. A 3 inch anti-surge inlet is standard to provide unrestricted flow to the compressor.

The turbo upgrade features high flow cast stainless steel turbo manifolds. The inlet ports, runners, and outlet are substantially larger than the factory manifold to support very high power levels. The cast stainless steel design was chosen for both reliability and performance. The Weistec Cast Stainless Steel Manifolds are incredibly strong and sturdy in comparison to tubular manifold designs which have a tendency to crack and leak. A cast manifold is also better at retaining heat than a tubular manifold, resulting in quicker response from the turbocharger.

The Weistec Turbine Housings have V-Band inlets, to allow for a cleaner and easier install, and turbine outlets that not only match the factory location, also have the same flange design to use the same Weistec Downpipes and Midpipes as the stock turbos.

*Power gains vary based on model and modifications.

*Product may not be emissions compliant. Check local laws prior to installation.

Key Features:

•Twin Ball Bearing Turbochargers

•57 Lbs/min compressor flow

•Weistec M177/M178 Compressor Covers

•Weistec Cast Stainless Steel M177/M178 Turbine Housings

•Weistec Cast Stainless Steel M177/M178 Manifolds

•Custom Turbo Coolant Lines and Fittings

•Custom Turbo Oil Lines and Fittings

•Weistec Intake Piping

•Bolt on installation

•All hardware and gaskets are included

•900+HP Capable with supporting upgrades

•Designed to use Weistec True Downpipes

•Compatible with Factory Downpipes

•Reuses Stock Wastegate Actuators

•No Core Charge

Thanks for sharing jrcart. Great news, now if only they had a shop in Florida...
London FOB, that sounds like a great deal at 6K but I doubt this is right as their impeller upgrade alone is advertised at $9.5K.

I would imagine that DIME probably has something similar to Wesitec in the works since the two original founders/owners of Weistec split and parted ways and one of them opened DIME.

Competition brings out the best(prices) in every supplier. The upgraded turbos are not flying out the shops so I doubt anyone is paying full price.
