Daily Driver or Weekend Car

Hello All

Just curios, is your AMG GT (or any of the variants) your daily driver or weekend car?

I'm buying it to be a weekend car but it seems like most people here drive it daily?

Mine started off as a daily driver .... But then I quickly realized that other people who do not drive nice cars are freaking savages with no respect for anyone's property. I also did not feel comfortable parking at grocery stores, malls, movie theaters etc. I went and bought another car for daily use and my blood pressure returned to normal.

I was driving mine daily but decided to get a cls63 as a daily... AMG disease, plus I work at a conservative bank and some of my clients might look at me a little crazy showing up in a Solar Beam GTS..

I know they are different cars but I've been thinking about getting the 2018 E63 Edition one as opposed to my GTR/E300 setup...

Too bad I need 4 seats

Weekend fun car. Not practical as an urban commuter assault vehicle for me.

Other than the stiff suspension (even in comfort mode), it works for me. I don't need a ton of storage room.

Apart from the 6 months of winter we endure here in CNY, daily driver for me. If I wasn't so long in the tooth and adverse to doing the summer/winter wheel/tire swap tango twice a year, I'd run it in the winter too. As it is, my winter wheels are an F150 with 1000 lbs. of ballast in the box.

Isn't paying for a second car more expensive than paying insurance deductibles or repairing the damage on the GT S out of pocket?

Even if it's a bit more expensive, I can't imagine the negligible upkeep costs could ever be worth dealing with driving a some awful, cheap car, while you have an amazing car in the garage.

It is purely psychological.

I drive mine when I feel like it and when practical. I avoid going where I have to use a parking garage or on dirt or gravel roads. I do not care if it depreciates. When I drive it I want it to look it's best.

My problem DD is GT is so freakin quick at getting somewhere fast and then you hit a wall of traffic....so frustrating. And the brainless who get a drivers license and sit in the left lane.

Can you say KILLJOY

I had a retractable gatling gun installed. It's a secret AMG option. Thin the herd.

So I used to use comfort mode going to from work. It was, comfy. And I used race mode at the track. It was racey. But comfort mode has a mushy throttle response and race mode holds gears too long when creeping in traffic.

So I started using sport plus a lot. Nice crackles and pops. Good throttle response. It was my go to mode for about 4 months. But coming home from work it was a little.... jiggly. And not in a good way. Harsh ish.

But now Im trying sport mode and Im liking it. Nice DD mode. But, no crackles. And maybe a bit stiff. Maybe I'll try comfort mode again....

Make your on in individual mode. Comfort suspension, sport tranny, exhaust open? Ect off!

Daily Driver - Two Modes + Parking Lot Strategies

Definitely a daily driver! Depending on conditions - heavy traffic vs. an upcoming decreasing radius on ramp -
- BORING CONDITIONS
-- Comfort Performance Setting (Tranny + response) but with manual shifting because the shift points come too soon;
-- Suspension = Comfort,
-- Exhaust = Sport Setting, ESP = Normal (On)

- LIGHT TRAFFIC, HANDLING OPPORTUNITIES, ACTUALLY ANY EXCUSE:
- INDIVIDUAL MODE:
-- Sport + Transmission & Response;
-- Suspension = Comfort (with a quick jab at the Sport or Sport+ setting if a good corner is coming up);
-- Exhaust = Sport;
-- ESP = one click off, but not totally off.

As others have mentioned on this board, the Comfort suspension setting is stiff and typically all I need. And it doesn't take long to realize that instead of turning off the Sport setting going to Comfort, I'm actually in Sport+ which is my dentist's friend since it does a great job loosening fillings. But, wow, in Sport++, even at speed, it's planted!

I share others' concerns about parking lot damage. I'll walk a couple hundred feet extra in order to park in an area with fewer cars or wider spots. (Easily said in SoCal where the weather's good.) I avoid parking on a ramp in a garage where a door can swing into my car, and I "profile" cars that I might park near to judge if they will be careful. Generally, I'll pick passenger-side doors vs. driver-side doors. In some places like my gym or where we shop for groceries, I know where the employees park, so I'm pretty sure that there won't be a lot of in & out nearby.

Quite easily my biggest concern with this car: where to park it when in public. Obviously never on the street, but in shopping malls for example, what is your strategy? The only idea I have is to park it next to a wall or a pillar, that way only 1 other car can park next to you and that cuts the amount of cars going in and out next to your vehicle by half.

I read somewhere that some people with exotic cars, usually take 2 spots, to avoid having "neighbors". My concern is people who are careless and have their doors wide open, or get out of the car with their bags and don't mind if it touched the car next to theirs...
