AMG GT Argument Thread
I propose that we open one thread for people to argue about the quality and depreciation of the AMG GT. Maybe the mods can move errant posts on other threads over here.
I am really becoming tired of posts from a few people polluting every thread.
Personally I do not understand why a former owner or someone who never owned the car would spend so much of their free time frequenting this specific forum. I I feel bad for certain people who had a bad experience but if you said your peace multiple times, then you should also realize this forum is for the enjoyment of those who actually like their cars.
People that have beef can post it here and happy owners can come here and offer the opposing view. What do you guys think?

The other more effective alternative:
Ask Vic the moderator to put amgfan1 on PERMANENT BAN.

I agree. I get really tired of him beating up on his dead horse. Every post of his is a waste of time. Can I put him on an ignore list.

ThNk you for this. I am shocked at the negativity on this forum. It's frustrating frankly, as this should be a place owners and enthusiasts come to learn, discuss, and enjoy their very expensive pieces of craftsmanship. The ones they either have bought, would like to buy, or are considering buying with a helluva lot of their hard earned money.

First, I don't yet own a GT, but I have aspirations. Spousal consent is the big obstacle right now. I asked the local dealer about why there are already so many of these on Cars.com, etc, and he candidly told me that some people are just not expecting a true performance car. They come out of an S-Class or a loaded E-class and suddenly find that the GT they bought on impulse does not suit them. So they trade out. Same with the SLS. They had someone by an SLS, and brought it back because they were too short to reach the gull door handle when seated. good reason. The local dealer has had none returned, nor are there any for sale in this area to my knowledge.

I also agree that banning amgfan1, at least until he gets a driver's license, is a better solution. We will also be helping him by forcing him to focus more on his homework...

OK. Good. Done. Banish him!! Now, what I hope to gain from this thread is why I should look harder at the AMG GT than a new 911. My local dealer carries both.

It was a six month probation which has ended. He can post anytime he wants.
Do you really think being put on probation and/or banned from the AMG Pl means anything. Come on all they care about is promoting the great 43 models.

Fit and finish and interior touches are perfect and you get a car that's not on every corner.

LOL. How can someone like him afford to own any of these cars though... that's the real question. I hope he's just being a troll.

Bravo Td33. I am trying to gather arguments to head for the Mercedes building at the dealership rather than the Porsche building across the lot. I've wanted a 911 for most of my adult life, but now I am seriously leaning towards the GT. At my age I don't really care about depreciation - I'll let the kids worry about that - I want something unique that is truly awesome to drive. The Dime Racing version is incredible. I went to their site yesterday and was blown away.

Curious to what Porsche you would buy in favor of the AMG GT? Reason I ask is that any comparable P-Car will have to be used since there isn't any new GT3's or GT3rs's, unless you have an allocation for a new 991.2 GT3 which will be out later this year. So if you want a new car then the AMG GT might have to be your choice. One might say just buy the Porsche Turbo or Turbo S, I would say go for it but the price difference is a huge gap. If you would buy used then I would highly recommend test driving a GT3 to see what the driving experience is compared to the AMG, totally different animals.

Agree that this is an apples/oranges situation. I was thinking a Carrera S, as GT3 allocations around here disappear quickly - they go to preferred customers. Any Porsche would likely be used, so the GTS is indeed looking better and better. I have always owned front engine cars, anyway and have a certain amount of brand affinity for Mercedes. Thanks for the feedback.
