2017 F Type R
"Good to be Bad" or "The Best or Nothing"
Hi Guys,
As the subjects says, F Type R or AMG GTS? I'm currently an owner of a 2017 F TYPE R. Only 4,000 miles but I'm going to sign a RED GTS today. If number looks good (so far looking good). What do you guys think?

A lot of comparisons with these two cars, but I believe it comes down to GT having better balance and stability in twisties and it's 400 pounds lighter.
Interior is a win from r GT as well IMO.
Looking forward to your impressions.

I guess I'll still have to wish you luck, although it looks like you already have all of it, hahaha! Good luck!

Is it more exotic looking than the Jag? I get at least minimum three thumbs up from people on the freeway and on the side street and random conversations from my jag. Lol

Thank you! Just work hard my friend and you'll have the same dilemma

Having tried the Jag before deciding on the GTS, I guess my decision speaks for itself. The GTS is just the better car, and don't worry, you'll get the looks and the "thumbs up". There's something about that long bonnet that makes people stare at it, and shortly before that you'll see them looking around to see where that beautiful sound is coming from

Ive owned a 14 F Type R (RWD) and there is no comparo... the GTS is the better car in almost every aspect. Now its not leaps and bounds better in some categories but based on my ownership it has a clear advantage in important driving characterisitics:
Speed
Quickness (I had the rwd jag)
chassis
steering
handling
transmission
And then there is the interior; I thought Jag felt "cheap" while the AMG is far more luxurious even for a sports car. Ultimately I sold the Jag after 5 months and bought a 991.1 GT3. Now I will say this, the Jag exhaust was quite an event with its dagger chucking overruns but the car had some very odd handling issues at higher speeds that I think that was fixed with the AWD system addition.
Of course if you throw in pricing, the GTS might not be a choice for everyone and the Jag is indeed a strong 550hp car for the price.

My partner has an F-Type-S which I've driven many times. The Jag is a fantastic car, looks great, drives really well and gets a lot of attention but the Mercedes is the better car overall and looks more exotic (although not necessarily prettier). As Vic mentioned the interior of the Jag is not quite up to the same standard as the Mercedes. The Mercedes is pretty rare on UK roads; I've only seen one or two in the last year. I'd go with the Mercedes over the Jag but it is more expensive of course.

Hey, so I'm also considering the amg gt. My previous cat was the ftype r awd. I'm looking more at the gt with handling package rather than the gts. How do you fellas think the base amg compares with the ftype r and gts?
I'd like to add that I'm looking at the gt because cost is a consideration for me. I know I can get an ftype svr for 130, so paying 150 for the gts is unreasonable.

This has been discussed a lot here in several threads. I have a GT and it's a great value. There are very few differences between the two and it all comes down to whether you want active engine and suspension mounts and an electronic differential. Otherwise, you can option GT as a GTS at about 15k less.
The engine is identical and there are stated HP differences which mean nothing in reality

No comparison between the two, the GTS is the better car and on top of that the F Type has a very cramped interior.

Thanks for your responses. I do disagree on a few points, I find the ftype far prettier for example, but of course I would... After my first one I got a second one. However, it's clear everyone here is confident in the amgs performance.
There's still the issue of value though... everyone touts the performance of the amg gts, but I'm starting to think the real comparison should be between the base gt and the f type svr. They have a similar price point, and the svr is probably cheaper to lease.
The amg will win that comparison in several categories, but when it comes to performance, the svr has a 100+ hp advantage and awd.

Beauty is in the eye of he beholder so can't help you there.
Buy the GT and option it to your liking (probably will be 10K less than an SVR), tune it and the SVR will see the Benz tail lights.

Mercedes GTS Edition 1
Jaguar are going to put a 2 litre in order to sell more units, I can't see Mercedes doing that, on the road the merc has a super car presence, I live in Cornwall in the U.K. There are lots of F types on the road but I have only ever seen one other gts The old adage you get what you pay for

I owned a 2011 Jag XJ Supercharged and wanted to try a 2 seater. I naturally looked at the F Type R. While I liked the looks, exhaust note and price of the F Type, once I started looking at the GT, everything changed.
I like the interior, trunk space (my golf clubs fit) and specialness of the GT better.
