What's the difference between the two Burmester sound systems?
I haven't been able to find a car with the High End system. Has anyone compared the two( 810 and 811) in the GTS ?
Im wondering if the $4500 upgrade is worth it?
Looks nicer yet may may not perform that much differently

I might be wrong. But after driving both back-to-back, it's clear that the upgraded version makes use of the two small dash speakers (silver grills) at the base corner of the windshield. Even though the 'basic' Burmeister has covers (black) in these same locations, they may be dummies. Feels like the music only comes from the large center dash speaker.
I have to say, having now listened to them both, I wouldn't pay the upgrade charge. Neither sounds fantastic.

When I originally asked, everyone told me the regular Burmester in the GTS was terrible. It seems now that the opinions are divided. Some say it's a must have others say no.
Im still waiting for my build, so I go back and forth with my choices. The price tag however keeps going up , up , up

havent listened to both. But by the cost, I would say the basic is a average MB system like a Ccar would have, common speakers, low/or no power amp.
The option would be upgraded speakers, amp like other sl and s cars have in them.
My sl system was 6500 cost and it sounds alot better than the standard. But it doesnt sound as good as a aftermkt good quality stereo.
As for the car, i am used to 911 s and when i compare the standard, and the 5000 option burmester, i couldnt do without it, it is far superior

I've heard both and currently own the high-end Burmester. For me, I bought used but ended up finding one that had it.
Been 2 days with it but the high end system is pretty excellent in many ways (great mids, good clarity up high and a feeling of a 10" sub from back in the day.)

Nearly every cost option is "better", give/take some subjective preferences, but like others have said, it depends where your pain threshold is and what you value in the car.

I have the B&O in our current SL550 and not worth it, in my opinion. Requires specially encoded CD's to take full advantage of the sound system or a bunch of aftermarket hackery to make it work. We had the std H&K in our 2013, sounded just as good. Time is approaching for us to get a 2018 SL or perhaps a GTC, I'll spend the $$ on other options.

I understand they cost different amounts. I don't plan to trade the car for 4-5 yrs so I want to get the appropriate options without short changing myself. I don't want to regret not getting something but I don't want to spend too much if I don't have to. The cost of the car is already close to McLaren . It may be a better choice if the AMG is fully loaded.

Surfah,
where did did you get a 2018? I know you were looking at a 2016. Did you order it or buy a built one from a dealers stock?

Really?
IMHO -- with so much road noise coming into the cabin, NO sound system in the GT models will deliver quality sound to the ears unless you are standing still or slowly cruising around your neighborhood annoying the neighbors with your booming bass. I did not buy this car to listen to music other than the exhaust note.
