So I get an email today from my AMG Sales consultant in south Florida which states the following:

I got a call from a CA dealer today and they told me they have a GTR available for sale and it has been released from VPC and will arrive by the end of the week. But they want $35,000 over sticker. Anybody who pays that is a fool. I hate to be blunt. But as soon as you drive it off the lot, it's worth $140,000 probably. They told me the GTR is a limited production and they will not make any more. I find that hard to believe. More dealer BS.

I know people only paying MSRP for the new gt2rs, which is a limited/special car. 6.47 at the ring. The new king!
It’s sad to see what the car market has evolved into.

I wouldn’t pay MSRP for this car. Nothing limited/special about it. Ask your dealer to put all this in writing and watch them run away.

Thought about it, but didn’t like the direction of MB/AMG. Bought a new 911 turbo s cab. Best car I have ever owned period!
Glad I didn’t buy, because I would have dumped the car under the current delivery situation. Production date of these first cars will be coming up on a year and the owners still don’t have them in the US.

Was offered an allocation for 5k under, but I do have a long positive history with my dealer and have purchased and/or referred numerous sales.

I'm not arguing with you. I understand the cars haven't been released. But I'm wondering what is going through the dealer's mind.

Right. The dealer is obviously lying. But to what end? They invited to come in to check out the GTR in person. I show up and there's no car... what then? Balloons fall from the ceiling and they're like April Fools ??

Take your business to someone who deserves.
Just curios which MB gave you that info?

Wingless Touring Edition is enticing if you need to get your manual fix.
Turbo S is good GT but looks like a base Carrera.
Gen 2 R8 looks same as Gen 1, should be able to get good deal on leftover 2017s as many still on lots. I was offered $20K off MSRP without asking.
How about Macca 570GT or 570S? Get a used model depreciation built in.
Can prolly get a used Huracan 580-2 for $200K or less transaction price.

Doubt you'll be able to spec a new GT3 for MSRP without previous buying history as most allocations spoken for. Many West Coast dealers charging ADM up to $25-35K over MSRP.

Maybe Porsche, but probably not
GTR I can afford new. The others... maybe. But would be nice to get used so I don't take a hit on depreciation. I just don't know which car I want. I like them all for different reasons. I'd probably get a Huracan if it were a perfect world and I didn't have to worry about driving in a city (San Francisco) or parking, or scraping, or pot holes, or this being my only car at the moment. The GTR makes the most sense since it probably makes for a better semi-daily driver (large trunk, etc.).
I am going to go to Vegas and do that race track thing where you can do 5 laps per car and test drive all of them.

Yeah, I've thought of most of that. My list consists of:
AMG GTR
Huracan
570S
R8
Maybe Porsche, but probably not

I would recommend you also drive them on regular streets (if not done so already sans the GTR) as the track experience will clearly be different than every day driving. The Lambo/GTS thread has already discussed those two vehicles.
From a comfort perspective, I can not speak enough about how great the magnetorheological dampers are in my R8. I go over the most kidney cringing roads at times and the R8 is just so enduring plus the V10 sound is amazing. You can definitely buy into the performance of the others but there is something still to be said about the N/A V10 wailing down the road and feeling of the car and how it works with the chassis, dampers, and steering. Having driven the 570S alot and owning the Hura in the past and the R8 now; Ill defend my purchase albeit biased. The other cars outside of the P car are not daily drivers IMHO but the R8 is definitely one that can be daily driven and the interior is still very nice. Its all subjective but like I said, problems others would yearn for.

It's nice to get a new ride, I love the new smell of my GTS and I enjoy pampering Mila for the first 500 miles as I keep the revs under 5000 rpm and break her in.
I see you live in SF, that would rule out the Huracan for me unless you were sticking to weekend trips to Napa, ocean driving along PCH and open roads in the East Bay. It will be a complete PITA in and around the city.
The 570S is a cool, new model from a cutting edge company that is going toe to toe with Ferrari and Lamborghini with the 720S which will add trickle down cache across the marque. I've never driven one but the reviews are glowing and it seems like a nice compromise between junior supercar/sportscar and daily driver.
I picked the AMG GTS over the Generation 2 R8 because the R8 was not visually distinctive enough from the Generation 1 model IMHO. As a daily driver, the more desirable V10+ was excluded as it does not offer Magneride which after daily driving a GT3 for 8000 miles is a must have option for daily compliance. Being stuck with the base model dampened my enthusiasm.
Plus the AMG GTS is a new model which looks different from anything else Mercedes has to offer as well as what other manufacturer's have to offer.
