Dealer seemed to suggest there are only seventy something GTRs in the US right now. And most if not all are accounted for. Also heard there are no more allocations available. If you were lucky enough to get an allocation or two that was it.
Wondering if anyone else can back this up?

thanks.

Sounds about right. But I doubt they are all gone for 2018. I've had a dealer or two tell me that was the case. But I find it hard to believe when there are GTRs sitting on lots unsold around the country.

I was told by a new car manager that I trust and had an order on file with, that there were no current allocations for 2018 and if there ultimately were some to be had, the cars wouldn’t be delivered until late spring. In fact it seems that if you’re in the market for a custom order, a 2019 might be your best bet.

I hope I’ve summarized this correctly but the complete lack of allocations and the uncertainty of when an ‘orderable’ allocation might become available led me to find a car I liked, and hence purchased.

What I've heard from my salesman echoes what everyone else has said. He told me that the last 2018 allocations will be given in December for March production, but will be very limited. He went on to say that production in 2018, for what I would assume is 2019 model year, is going to be very limited as well. I figure the unsold units currently out there are sitting because of huge dealer markup.

AMG GTC
French info (guess same for US as I think all GTs are manufactured on same production line)
I ordered a GTR on monday and I may get it in december 2018 if I am lucky but it is more than likley I will be waiting until march or april.
So it seems 2018 allocations have been filled or are just about to be.

never imagined i would have to wait almost one and a half years for a car

I called up my MB dealer as soon as the car was announced in end June of 2016, put my deposit and they cashed it in November of 2016. I took delivery in July 2017, so I waited about a year and that's given I was one of the first to order in the country!

Not all dealerships are selling above MSRP. My selling dealership threw in wheel/tyre insurance; two way enclosed transport of my trade and the GT R, and reimbursed my airfare for flying to them to sign the papers. Oh, and they gave me a great trade in value. Granted they are a smaller MB dealership in the Midwest, but I bet if a person finds the right car, a deal can still be made.

They’re out there. Check Autotrader.com. 95% are that Green color. Either you love it or hate it. I had a green Mercury Zephyr in College. It sucked. I can’t get another green car.

When the GT R was released I thought that there would be no way in hell that I'd buy it in GHM, but after seeing it in the flesh, I actually love it. A damn shame it's $10K though!! lol

I was told by one of the salesmen that I used to work with, that there are no allocations available because the dealerships used them and ordered vehicles thinking they knew what their clients would want instead of waiting for the clients to come in and order them as they actually wanted.. now you just have to settle for something that probably doesn't have all the options you wanted or is the wrong color..

Yes. This is 100% accurate. MB Corporate sent dealers a guide listing out what corporate thought was the best positioning and optimal configuration of the car for a given market location. And dealers ordered their cars to match that directive. Corporate did this based on whatever market research they did and so they could best prepare, at a manufacturing level, to build the cars. If corporate orders materials and builds a bunch of parts in preparation for perceived demand, and then the public turns around and orders cars with a very different spec, in mass, then corporate can't meet the demand. But if they tell dealers how consumers should want their cars, and dealers order that spec, then corporate will be able to meet the demand they themselves created.

The side-effect is maybe people don't want the car MB tells them they should want. And that is why you see a bunch of green cars sitting on lots around the country. Nobody wants them. If someone is going to drop $200,000 on a car, they want it built and spec'd to their own needs. So what happens? Now, if you want a GTR you'll have to settle for a compromise. And at $25,000+ over MSRP because of faux/artificial market inflation by the dealerships creating fake demand/exclusivity.

It's a win-win for Mercedes

I do think more allocations will become available in the future though. I managed to get a February production allocation. I just hope it pans out and isn't another dealership lie.

You will know it’s a legitimate deal when you have an actual production number associated with your order in Netstar.

And the ones i found are out of state. So I’d have to buy sight unseen . That is unless i want to fly multiple times to a dealer out of state to buy a car that is the wrong color, wrong specs , and marked up MSRP

Nonsense. Ask for the Monroney. Then you'll know exactly what the car is.

There are three GTRs on lots local to me in SF. I've been searching for one for months now. All these dealers told me they were impossible to get. Then they told me no more allocations. Today, all three dealers called me. The buyers all backed out and now the cars are just sitting there. But the dealers want $50,000 over MSRP.

I stopped in to look at them today. Beautiful cars. They all wanted to deal. But since they all turned me away three months ago, I found an allocation I could configure for MSRP somewhere else. Now they're all begging me to buy the cars they've got. When they all initially told me sorry, we can't help you. I told them unless they can come down to BELOW sticker price, it's a non-starter for me since I've got an allocation I configured how I want it. And without some crazy markup. These dealers are now sitting on cars they can't sell. But still pricing them super high.

Anyway... if you want a green one, MB Oakland has one. White in SF. And matte grey in Pleasanton. But be prepared to fork over an extra $50,000.

Yeah, it's nuts. One told me today that "down in Hollywood, they're getting $100,000 over sticker..." Maybe they think a young guy doesn't know any better. $100,000 over MSRP? Really? Nobody is gonna pay 300,000 for a Mercedes GTR.

If you want this car NOW you will pay up. Simple as that.
otherwise wait till fall 2018 or spring 2019 if you can find an allocation that's not spoken for

Nobody is paying $100,000 over sticker for one of these, let alone $50,000. That's why they aren't moving.

Yes they are, you just dont have the facts.... many of the first deliveries were 50k over especially at the big 4 stores in the So Cal Region. And they are moving just not the Green Hell ones (not so much). The markups will slowly dissipate but anyone who did pay that much over and is on the boards will more than likely not volunteer themselves LOL. But in reality who cares, its just "early adopter" money.
