i live in Atlanta and can tell you Gravity sells a lot of wore out cars from auctions at cheap prices. They also buy a lot of Florida cars where the titles and history can get washed.

We we are getting to a point where these cars are close to 3 years old and can get rough.

It looks good in the pics. A CA car is a plus as well. The price is right. Maybe fly out and have it checked out before committing.

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
Used car dealers usually get the cars the dealers dont want. If it was a good clean car with no trouble, the dealer would want to resell it himself, or a dealer who took it in would make a deal with the franchise dealer to send it to him. When a new, warranted car goes out on the open market theres usually a story surrounding it.

I would save enough money to buy a low mileage (less than 10000), CPO car from an authorized Mercedes dealership.

Thats a lot of miles for a 2 year old GTS (in service Jan of 16).... maybe not for a Camry or a commuter car but for a sports car like the GTS its running high. It was bought at an auction in Florida over a month ago (11/09/17) and I dont even see a date of when it was serviced via Carfax.

I think you would be best to spend a little more and get one from a Benz dealer with full docs and records of proper servicing too (unless the dealer has some sort of proof) as Surfah mentioned above.

These cars are expensive to service. Buying one without documentation that the required service has been followed, whether at an MB dealership or another certified shop is asking for warranty refusal. I would only buy a car like a GTs with it being a CPO vehicle. Christ, it will come with a 6 year, 100K warranty. For that piece of mind, saving $10K without it being a CPO car is stupid. IMHO of course.

All great advice here. I just wanted to throw 2 more things at you:

1-a lot of dealers have a 45-60 day limit on time they give themselves to sell a used car before shipping it to auction, so possible not “dealer didn’t want” or “beat”, maybe they just couldn’t sell it in a timely manner so auctioned it.

2-higher mileage for this car, so possible nothing wrong but that somewhat less desirable part.

anyways-follow all the great advice here, be a little careful, and make a well educated decision.

Mileage is not unreasonable (10K per year) mine is a DD and I have 10K in 15 months.
Get the service history from an MB dealer and get the seller to send you carfax and high def pics. It is after all still under MB OEM warranty. If you satisfied with the info, fly there and buy it.
What am I missing?
