Is emergency brake interlocked with Park?

Hello,
On the GTC that I tested a few weeks back I had to release the emergency brake when shifting from Park. Is the EB interlocked with the Park position or you can shift to Park without the EB engaging?
Thank you.

I believe that it always engages.

That happened to me a couple of days ago. And the trunk lid light came on and said it was ajar when I released the brake. Even though it was closed. When I got home I released the trunk and re-closed it and have had no further difficulties with the brake. When I shift into gear it releases too.

(I think when I closed the trunk there may have been something between the lid and the body in the lock area.)
