Show and Go license plate
Has anyone installed this on their GT? It is a retractable motorized front license plate bracket. Im running without a front plate. In NY that’s easy target for the po-po. |
I actually had it done on mine, but non motorized because the car is so low. I just pull up by hand b4 i drive to the city

Any pics? Interested in this for covering the plate while attending car shows.

I found a local custom shop that can install a Show and Go or Audiovox license plate holder for the front. They recommended to go with a manual one as shown in this thread, not an automatic one. They say that the automatic ones freeze up, break down, etc. Given the point at the front of the 2018 GT, I was concerned about how much the bracket would stick out. I was also concerned about the low clearance. To address these issues, they told be that on a GT they once put the bracket ABOVE the chrome-like front, in the space where those black vents are. Some vents would need to be removed for the bracket to fit. They said that it turned out great, the plate was hidden and there was not a clearance problem. It sort of had the look of where European plates are when flipped up. I asked about any resale issues, they said that if I ever needed to replace those vents, it would cost about $130 to put in a new vent assembly in that space. I have asked to see a picture if they have one. This may be an even better solution.

I stopped by the shop and upon further review this idea won’t work for me. The Mercedes star gets blocked by the plate in the flipped-up position, looks horrible. I may just get it mounted on the bottom as originally planned. They don’t think the bracket will stick out much after all. from a 18 SL. It works perfect in the centre position |

That actually looks pretty good, almost European.

I think the Show and Go turned out nice. I just need to be careful because of the low clearance. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...5c7497f17.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...c1cf2dc71.jpeg |
Alternative - STO N SHO (need help from San Jose CA)
Funny, I just posted this on amggtforum, sorry for cross posting here.
For those looking for an alternative, I did some research and there are no sto n sho hidden front plate bracket for the AMG GT. However, that company is more than willing to develop one, if someone in the San Jose CA area can swing by their shop, so they can measure it. If you can do this, for the team... call Uri, below. If you do, please reply here, so we all know we can expect the plate bracket to be available soon. Thanks. www.stonsho.com Uri Tripp | Phone: 408-776-4080 Fax: 831-417-4555 |
For those of you who are interested, the actual manufacturer for my front license frame is Race Sport. They label it as their "Hide-A-Way-Man" plate frame.

the original mount had it off to one side just below the headlamp. Looked horrible... I guess it doesn’t matter - any license plate in the front does not look great. |
