Keyless entry to the trunk - help
I have just received my 2018 GT .....loving it 😍
But we are having a battle of wills when it comes opening the trunk using keyless entry
on a good day, it looks like I am doing a line dance 👯
on a bad day, it looks like I am attempting to have sexual relations with it 😁
....yet it only opens WHEN IT WANTS TO 😡
Whats the the trick to make it work ??

I never use that feature. Opening the drivers door and pressing the button or even using the key fob work great for me. I've never felt a need to try this feature myself. Sorry.

When you have the patience, find the center of the rear bumper and then make a straight in kicking motion. Try and find a point on the bumper that you can use to line up in the future once you get it to open. The sensor is fairly close to the underside of rear bumper as opposed to being further in.
Good hunting. (If all else fails keep the FOB in your pocket and use the lower right button.)

Firstly, it only works when you have the key, i.e. if the key is inside the unlocked and/or running car, its disabled.
100% reliable for me - just a flick towards the center of the diffuser.

I assume you are talking about the kick open feature. Keyless entry is just walking up and opening with the hand button/lever.
If you watch this you can see what the sensor looks like. Some cars have 2 different sensors. Like the SL.
The idea is, you are giving a sense motion to one, then both sensors. and it triggers OPEN
I found that on a car with 2 seperate sensors, I could move one to a different place and it worked way better. I moved the one up hi behind the bumper to down low under the black tray , and it works great.
So you may try locating them and pulling one out and moving it, or if it has the one piece you can move it down under the tray

His frustration is with a GT model. Finding the location initially and that lifting your foot/leg straight forward in the center is the winner as opposed to a sweeping side to side motion.

Thanks guys.
I have spent a fair bit of time experimenting with it.
If I stand in the one position, and do the identical kicking motion, it will only trigger it 1 or 2 times out of 10

Ironically, it has triggered a few times as I have walked past the rear of the car. WTF :o
After hearing how easily it works for you, and seeing the video, I now suspect I have something wrong. with mine.

If it still bothers you do make an appointment and take it in. Let the service people know you would like to be present when they test it.

With mine you can't keep your foot under the sensor. After you find the location as mentioned, kick and pull foot back. Additionally, it's a thin line between being cool and looking silly. Pull that foot back.

The GTR manual (I'm currently looking at mine) does not mention the 'kick to open' feature as a way to open the boot. I suspect that due to the rear diffuser it isn't available on the GTRs.
Congrats with the car btw; gorgeous. Get it protected with PPF ASAP.

Kick to open on any AMG GT is kinda silly!
Whats the use case? Drivers frequently loaded up with shopping bags and groceries?
A touch point would have been far more practical - on the 718 you just touch the model badge.

In 10-months, I've never approached the car loaded up, but I have kicked the diffuser on several occasions trying to trip the foot waver.
I prefer the Porsche system, but thats just me

Had me second guessing myself for a moment there, then I re-read and noticed the word I mentally skipped ......Volvo - it all makes sense

It has been a hit and miss as well but since i changed the rear diffuser to a more athletic and aesthetically looking diffuser, the feature is gone and I am not missing it.

I had a "cranky" trunk, too, until I read here and aimed my foot precisely in the middle. Now it unlocks reliably when I do so.
