My New GT!

Ok, I was going to wait until my car was prepped, detailed, and PPF'd, but I have decided to share these early pics after all! It has been a long journey from placing my order in October 2017, including flirting with switching to other "available GTs" that would appear on the market. I am so glad that I waited to get exactly what I wanted. I have also learned a lot from many of the posts I have read from people who are passionate about the GT and far more knowledgeable about all of the variants (i.e., GT, GTS, GTC, GTR). Mine is simply a GT, which is fine for me, I plan to drive it daily. This is my first 2 seater and my mid-life crisis car. I previously drove sedans like Jaguar XJ and Mercedes S550. Visual notables that make my GT special for me are: magnetite black metallic (I love the hue variations of black, gray, green and blue depending on light and angle), auburn brown interior, piano black trim, and 10-spoke titanium wheels. Since I live in Chicago, I will also have a separate winter setup with Pirelli Sottozeros and Zito ZF03 wheels. I can't wait to actually drive it!

Nice. The metal flake really shines in sun light. Get that thing wrapped right away. I had to wait over 3 weeks after i got mine to get it wrapped. I left it in the garage on a battery tender.
dont skimp. Get the whole thing covered

Yes, absolutely. Getting a PPF was one of the things I learned in this forum. It is scheduled to be done on Monday. The other thing I am debating is whether to put on the front license plate (required by law in Illinois). If you drive into Chicago proper, they love to give tickets for this, often with cameras.

Where I live the first one is a fix-it ticket so if it is the same there you might wait till you get the first one.---Nice car

Looks good, jstew!

I used your example when the GM of the dealership where I ordered mine, last June, tried to tell me, "They're just not making these cars."
I told her that I knew of someone who ordered his in October, and is upset that it's not getting built in February, so I know that they are
being built. :-)

I did finally get my car, but through this forum, and not the dealership. Write-up to come, when I get some time.

Wow, I am glad you were able to use my example. What I found when I started doing my research on actually placing an order, not all dealerships are created equal. Some dealerships don't have a track record of selling AMGs or specifically GTs and it is harder for them to get an allocation. Some try to tell you that they aren't being built, others tell you that they can get an allocation or trade for one, but really can't. My dealership has a solid AMG and GT track record and did not have a problem getting an allocation. It just takes time for the the build and delivery of course. I look forward to seeing your GTS!

I didn't mind the waiting, I just didn't like all of the lying.

I don't like that either but unfortunately that's the world of car sales.

Nice lines overall, looks like a supervillian should be stepping out of it. I imagine it drives like nothing else, kind of like a cross between a bentley and a mclaren.
Mark.

Just like yours, my midlife crisis (according to my wife), plain GT (thanks to this forum) will be picking up in July in Sindelfingen. Until then I will be drooling at your (and other) pictures on this forum.

Congratulations, it will certainly be worth the wait! I am also amazed at how many heads turn for this car. Not that my ego needs it, but I have never experienced this at this level before. My last two cars were a Jag XJ and Mercedes S550. There is no comparison to how the world stops around you and stares!

The other thrill is actually getting to drive the car on the open road. This is no comparison to a quick test drive. It's fun, it's dynamic, it's exhilarating!

Nice score you have there...On the front license plate delete, I've driven nearly 3 years in the Western suburbs with no issues. I have been pulled over once in Oswego, received a friendly warning for a 59 in a 45 and he never mentioned the front plate. He pulled a U turn to come get me, so he had to see it. Anyway, the car looks so much nicer without a front plate, I figured I would wait until I had to mount it. I've never heard of a camera initiated violation for this, but the city is a different story, I guess. Rahm's gotta get his money some way.

Enjoy in good health

I am having my dealer check to see if MB of Chicago has any front center mount ideas since they must deal with this on a regular basis bring in the city. One thing is for sure, I am not doing a front right or left mount.

There is no comparison! The S550 and the XJ were both sedans. The S550 was luxurious but was never really fun to drive, did not feel the road either. The XJ was marginally more fun to drive with a bit more road feel. The GT, on the other hand, is an exhilarating driving experience in every way.

Wow! Amazing looking car! Why the comments on wrapping it? I understand wanting to protect it, but you never get to enjoy the high quality paint that way. You bought it as a daily. Enjoy it! I love this car more than a Ferrari. It seems it's just so much more liveable than other exotics. Maybe I will get one when it's ten years old!

Yes, I am loving this car. Regarding my comments about protection, I have a PPF (or clear film), not a wrap that I understand can change the color of the car. With my application, it also has the same UV as the non-PPF parts of the car. You can't really tell that the PPF exists, it is seamless and virtually invisible.
