AMG gt race mode?
I知 about to buy an AMG gt and I知 stuck between two choices. I new AMG GTR or a 2017 AMG GT done by RENNtech. I知 in love with both, but as I was looking at some photos of the GT I notice something interesting. I didn稚 see race mode on the dynamic select knob. So does the AMG GT not have race mode?

GT has race start. Race selection just holds gears in higher rev range in each gear. The renntech tune would be far superior in throttle response in sport plus.
A modded GT or GTR ?? Hands down GTR. Overall suspension balance is in a different league. Resale, warranty as well.

If you are really going to spend 185K+, I would get the GTR if the choice is narrowed down to just Renntech GTS or GTR. Just my opinion but I think a GTR will be real close in straight line performance to the Renntech unit.
Just to throw this out there, at that price level, I would splurge a bit more and take a serious look at a 570S or 570GT

If all you want to do is go fast in a straight line over 1/4-1/2 mile, then the Renntech might be the way to go; but for everything else it has to be the GTR.
As for resale I'm not sure, but both will lose value over time and I can imagine the Renntech losing a lot more than the GTR, plus there will be many more buyers of a used GTR than the Renntech.
Good luck with your decision.

Dittos to all above in favor of the GTR. Also, have you looked at both in person? The wider rear body work of the GTC and GTR make the car look more dramatic and aggressive.

Whiteblack and Ronin: not sure on which planet you guys live on but on the streets (straight or curvy) which I assume the OP will use his car the most as he is debating with a Renntech GTS, the 570S or 570GT will give a spanking to a tuned GTS or stock GTR. I have personal experience against a good friend with his tuned 570S and it was not pretty to stay the least. At 1/2 mile events from a roll, he narrowly edges out a 675LT.
In the Florida heat and humidity on the drag strip at PBIR, he clocked a 10.1 and I could not even get in low 11s (both of us on street tires). This is not even in the same zip code.
I cannot see a 570S (especially tuned) losing to any GT(S) with bolt ons on the streets or on the track (lightning lap for a stock GTS is 2:51, 570S at 2:47 and GTR at 2:43 as an example). The only edge I can give for the GTR would be on the race track where the rear wheel steering, aero and different tires work their magic.
Sorry OP for the diversion and great choice with the GTR. It's the right thing to do. Post pics when you get it.

Why are you comparing tuned to stock🤷🏽*♂️
My GTR breezes away from a stock 570S and annihilates it on track.
GTR performance wise sits just below 675LT in my experience of playing with them on track a lot. LT only a little quicker in a straight line and turns. Closer enough that the result is down to the driver.

Your car must be a ringer then...
Stock vs stock: a GTS is not even remotely close to a match for a 570 and the GTR will get beat from as well in a straightline (check all the mags if you wish). The GTR will only be better on a race track.
Tuned / Bolts: a GTS or a GTR is no match on a straight line. Show me any proof of a GTR stock or tuned less than 10.4 on a quarter mile which is still way slower than 10.1 (his is even a convertible). Again on a track, the GTR will be quicker but on the street, no one should be going this quickly in the twisties and the 570 will be in front.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to say the Benz is the superior weapon on the streets but I have too much experience with the 570S that shows it is the quicker and faster car stock or tuned/bolt ons.

Drag racing doesn't interest me at all, its not relevant to what either of these cars were designed to do. All my experience is real world driving and track time with lots of different flavours of GT and 570GT/S. The low down grunt of the GT series is what wins through in these situations rolling on, exiting corners etc.
I also think the GT series is a much more stable car that inspires confidence, the 570S is much more skittish. We did some very high speed driving on the Isle of Man last month, 570S did not inspire pressing on at big speeds on rural roads, the GTR was the complete opposite. On a track that's not so much of an issue but it still means that a complete hack like me can put in great times in the GTR.
Anyway, OP should buy a GTR

I couldn't agree more with the last comments you made and applaud you for using the car for its true intended purpose. You are right on that the GT-R makes an average guy like me look better on the track than he is whereas the 570 is a handful. The GT series built by AMG is the first car truly engineered for the race track and it's arguably one of the best. I was just trying to point out that most buyers (other than guys like you) of the GT series will use them on the streets and I did not want them to be disappointed if they get spanked at a light or on a roll while in Mexico.
OP, now hurry up and get behind the wheel of a GTR
