Did AMG copy the E Type Jaguar when they designed the GT ?
I bought an AMG GT recently. Everyone tells me it looks like a Porsche. Yes, I can see certain lines reminisce of the 928
.....but.....
To me, the GT looks like (and feels like) the E Type.
So I overlayed the GT's silhouette onto an E type FHC.
The results STUNNED me...... 😱
I used a 2+2 FHC, and left the GT full size, as the wheelbases are almost identical.
The guidelines show each wheelbase length
The similarities are just too close to be a co-incidence.
The bonnet length. The shape of the cabin. The trailing line of the hatch. The wheelbase length. Even the exhaust tip exit heights align.
So, did AMG copy the E type when they designed the AMG GT ???

I dont think they did... but the E type is regarded as many as on e of the most beautiful cars of all time...so high praise indeed... yea the rear taillights scream Porsche 928

Perhaps the proportions of the Gullwing had something to do with it?
Did the Gullwing pre-date the E-Type? If so, it would be interesting to compare the proportions of both the E-Type and AMG to it.
I feel the current AMG clearly echos that car.

MBWorld Fanatic!
You NEED one of these. I too am waiting on the BS but you gotta enjoy yourself while you wait.
This car is MUCH different than the GTS E1. It corners like it is on rails and your “innards” are shifted to one side of your body going through turns.
Accelleration is awsome and YES the K&N free flow filters do add something to the seat of the pants dyno. The exhaust wakes up too without messing with the factory warranty.
“Get yourself one”
(I am still intrigued with the Bentley GTR too but agree with your assessment that the maintenance would be a killer and a warranty would be a absolute necessity)
Best regards

The Gullwing did indeed predate the E-Type and is in the inspiration for the long hood and setback canopy we saw on the SLS and now the GT. The side and bonnet strakes on both cars also pay homage to the Gullwing; not to mention the Panamericana grill which debuted on the GT R draws the link to the Gullwing that won the famous road race in Mexico. Gordon Wagener was very conscious of the brand’s history when he designed the GT.

I feel like its just what many "sports cars" are designed like for aero and handling and other reasons

The Ferrari GT250 is an amazing car..... it gave inspiration to a varietal generation of follow-ons from Toyota and Mazda to the Jags and Astons
The 300 SL gullwing was 1954-1963
