Pass.

And as much as a AMG Nut Hugger I am; this car doesnt appeal. The performance will have to be exponentially better than the E63S for me and I just dont see it. The engine, the weight, are the same. It might beat the E63S by a few ticks on the track or in the straights but its not ground breaking nor are the looks via these pics.
We all know how dramatically different the same engine can be when modified with different turbos.
I would wait for real test of the new car, as delivered to owners, not base the performance on initial probes (like CarWow on youtube) of a car with 100mph top speed and most of the more aggressive modes switched off.

Indeed, and my pass is via what I see in pics; its a visual pass. CarWow will do quarter mile tests and rollers along with braking. While its not gospel they definitely go past speeds of 100 mph and I still dont rely on that either. It will be in a longer term test drive (that I personally do) which changed my thoughts on the F90 M5 vs the vids I saw. But the sedan looks here are highly questionable and so is the price tag. Like I said, it has to be exponentially better in performance... to justify a 180-200k price point. Others may see differently but I dont see a Benz for me at that level when I can walk in and buy a Turbo S 991.2 which suits me better since I have a sedan and dont want 2.

Those fender vents are horrible. Just some repackaged components from the parts bin. I'm sure it'll get tons of Instagram likes.

Well, CarWow did a quickn'dirty 1/4 mile test and it was underwhelming to say the least (low 12's/high 11's). Clearly not as good as the E63s.

I heard some info that seemed odd and needs confirmation (21" wheels and 200lbs heavier than the E63s) but at first glance it's not a winner in my book. I think at $15k-$20k over the E people will go for the extra power/rw steering & interior and will attract would-be Panamera customers but nothing more. Without MBUX it will also be outdated from the get go. The comand interface has been considered inferior to BMW's iDrive for years but now MBUX (at least in German reviews) is considered the best in class over BMW/Audi, etc.

Interesting. Mercedes Claims 3.1 seconds 0-60.

Since their claims are usually conservative I wonder about the poor time in the video. An example of conservative estimates from AMG about 0-60 times is the GT R is listed as 3.5 seconds and the GTS at 3.6 seconds....yet the GTS routinely did better (Car and Driver had 3.0). Full instrumented testing of the new GT 63S should prove interesting. Yes, I realize that the poor time mentioned in the above posting was for a ¼ mile and not 0-60 - but following up with the GT R and GTS in ¼ mile showed quite fast times. Sure they are 2 while drive and the GT 63S is 4 wheel which will help with a dig...still...it'll be interesting to see how it shakes out with the numbers.

Can't compare any tests when taken in different temps, on different surfaces etc.
That's one thing.
Second, all test cars at the event had limited top speed to 120mph and had a lot of functions disabled (like Drift mode for example)

t don't think I called it a carefully planned comparison. Not that CarWow ever uses a proper track for their tests anyways; I think it's just an airfield vs a racetrack this time...
That said, the performance sucked for a car that is being shown to journalists. You don't introduce performance cars by making them as slow as possible, rather the opposite. The car was going faster than 120mph btw.

Yep.
You are absolutely right, I was wrong when I said the cars were limited to 120mp/h, the car above shows max speed at 121.24mph (203km/h)

At 180-190k I would drive a G Wagon 11 times out of 10.

Agreed.

What was so appealing to me on GT was how it was priced, especially since it was second gen SLS. At this price point, all kinds of vehicles come to mind.

I think this is a conversation over nothing. Point is that it would be idiotic to limit the performance of the car.
Can’t ever remember hearing that kind of thing before.

I obviously hope for the car to perform much better than the E63s. I would have also hoped for the car to be a bit lighter on the scale.

It appeared all the settings were in order... its not like CarWow has their own limiter or reverse tune. I think the car is just slow in that moment. i have seen E63S's, in the real world on bad prep tracks with bad D/A run lower 12X's so it is what it is.

I like CarWow when they run side by sides on that longer strip- at least in that case its more of an apples vs apples for the most part (cant prove if driver error was prevalent).

Anyways, its a tough 180k pill to swallow pulling 11.90's when a stock CE M5 runs 10.9 at 129:

Yes conditions were pretty good but 129 stock is moving.

Some functions were blocked and cars had speed limiters engaged at 120mph on all the test cars in Texas for the press event, I don't know why, maybe MB was afraid some journos would be a bit over exuberant?

Yeah I just dont get it... especially if they allowed CarWow to test it with timers. Maybe the press event is different but if CarWow knew about a block they should not have tested it. For some reason, I think that car just was slow on that day with those conditions. I also dont think CarWow's car was a press car or part of a release event so that changes things up. I wont pass full judgement as there will be alot more "real" testing soon to come.

True.
Personally, I can't wait to finally see some real, independent tests of that car, would love to also see some real Dyno tests to see what the actual difference these new turbos make vs E63.
I have never kept any car as long as my current S8 but it's getting close to 40k miles, probably worth 1/3 of original price ($155k) and it is time to get a new daily driver.
I'm still hoping for the GT63S to fit the bill, otherwise it will be M5 Comp.
