If aero upgrades likte the GTR Pro are so important, why isn't the Performante faster?

The Perormante has very little downforce under 100mph and only 770 at 193 LOL.

Have you ever tracked a car with lots of aero? It's hard to explain until you've done it. I've tracked Viper's for years, countless thousands of track miles and when you go from a base Viper to an ACR the difference in speed you can carry through turns is frightening.

Just curious because recent reviews emphasize that tire selection is key to different track times for the Porsche GT's, Macca 720s, etc. The obvious controversy is that automobile manufacturers are shodding their test cars with tires that differ from the ones delivered to customers or may not even be available at all for public purchase.

Thanks for the info/updates on the GT R Pro and other topics. I was told that, in 2020, there will not be a "regular" GT R, only the "Pro". That doesn't seem to make sense that the limited-edition, one-year-only Pro would be the only version at the "R" level. With you experience any thoughts about where pricing for the GT R Pro will start. I also heard that there will no longer be a GT S version in 2020. Any info on these questions would be appreciated. Thanks!

The focus get some of the tech and cosmetic design elements in line with other AMG models (namely the 4 door) and if anything, the line-up is expanding instead of contracting.
I think the question is what comes to the US now and moving forward. The AMG GTS roadster was already introduced last June and doesn't seem to be coming to the US. Probably not a surprise, given the slow roadster sales.

Obviously you have a lot more experience. However, you seem to be pounding home the point that Aero is more important than Tires, HP and weight. Based on your track experience, what is the order of priority?

I never said HP wasn't important. If you read my previous post, I complained that the HP wasn't bumped over 600 and that there wasn't signficant weight loss.

They might. But at this point they just added the GTS roadster. The GT/GTS/GTC are not worlds apart, but there is enough space inbetween price-wise. Just MO but I feel that they are somewhat following the 911 model strategy. There is no big financial risk or costs in building these very similar cars to fit a buyers budget...

Have to admit I’m a little underwhelmed also. It is gojng to be a better track car what with the suspension changes, and the extra aero will help, but at what cost to street driveability?
I wish they had increased the tyre size a little, particularly in the front as well as going with a more aggressive tyre compound also.
I also don’t really care for the new steering wheel from the pictures, although I like the new dash.
And why in the hell couldn’t the car have come with say 625hp? It would make up for the lack of appreciable wright reduction.
It will still be fantastic no doubt; I just don’t think its a big enough ‘upgrade’ for me to think of trading.

re power, I wonder if there is something. Quoted fuel consumption for the pro is significantly lower than the gtr. Ok it’s probably got some extra drag but surely not that much!

I’m not a fan of busy steering wheels either. Just means I’m likely to change setups by accident. I already have a slight tendency to catch some of the buttons by accident when on track with the current wheel.

Good find on the increased fuel consumption figures, and I agree that the increased drag certainly at street speeds surely wouldn’t be that much greater? Hence a HP bump might be coming especially since it was reported that the car was always going to have it.

Re: 911equivilents:
GT = 911
GTC = 911 GTS
GTR = 911 GT3/GT3 RS
Thoughts?

I think they are saving the hp bump for the black series. They don't want the magazines saying things like the car is unwieldy and overpowered etc. I'm guessing the black series will have a much bigger wing that will let the car put the higher power to the ground

There is no exact mapping too the 911 as Porsche has more variants with the 4WD. If comparos are meaningful, the AMG GTS has typically been compared to the 911GTS and the GTC to the Turbo in Germany

Unsure if weight will be the same or less, different sources say different things.
Future 4 tiers GT/GTC/GTR/Pro.

So the press has reported no bump in hp, but WhiteBlack in the UK has noticed that the fuel consumption for the ‘Pro’ using the EU system is increased, hence the assumption that perhaps there has been a bump in power. Granted increased drag from the added ‘Aero’ may contribute to this also, but I’d think that at street speeds this would be negligible. I could well be wrong! lol

It seems to make little sense from a logistical/operational standpoint to introduce a model (the roadster) and then kill it within a model year, especially as they just facelift it (the coupe)...
But then, a lot of unusual things will happen over the next few years with a new CEO and focus on electrifying the line-up.

Just curious, where did you hear the demise of the GTS? Shahul mentioned no GTS roadster here but not bringing specific models to US means nothing as to what will be offered elsewhere.
