Transmission oil overheating!

Hi guys!
I just ecu tuned my 2016 Amg GTS also I got intakes as well.
i tried to launch the car after to see the difference it give me massage that transmission oil over heated and it doesn’t let me launch the car. I tried like 7 times two or three time I did with no problem then happened again! The transmission temp was 168 or couple times was 196 , and I didn’t launch back to back!
any idea what is wrong with it? I was able to do launch control back to back before tuning with zero problems !

What does the ECU tuner say?

he Said The transmission has its own computer we can't alter temp in a tune, take it in to the dealer to have it checked out

So those transmission temps are fine. It appears that your ECU tune is ‘corrupting’ something software wise, i.e. the ECU and TCU are no longer ‘talking’ to each other correctly. Think about it: your car is running fine; you ‘tune’ the ECU; the transmission then immediately starts throwing ‘codes’; so what do you think is causing the problem?

I went to the dealer and I left car with them. The technician is my friend and he knows I have tuned ecu! He is looking at it today, I hope I can get an answer!

Keep us posted, hopefully it's an easy fix i.e. reflash ECU and retune.

The Dealer technician is my friend, he said he need to update the transmission computer but he can not do it without updating the ecu. If he connects the computer to ecu automatically will copy ecu and send it to Germany. They will find out you have tuned ecu and your warranty will void. You need to send it back to your tuner to copy the original file, then I can fix the issues and you retune it again!!! (

Your tuner needs to step up here and help you resolve this. Who did you obtain the tune from?

They respond me quickly, hope they help me to solve the issue and retune ecu for me again. I went with HDtuning because I saw so many good reviews in this forum about them and so far I don’t have any issue with them!

This is the issue with small many tuning shops. They work into the ECU through software reverser engineering and disassembly, a very limiting activity in terms of understanding what is going on, peek and poke around, but cannot do complete work. Go with the well established names (and still be cautious). They often paid big bucks for the source code and really understand what is possible.

Get your money back. I would not let them try to figure out a 'work around'; you're asking for trouble.

Glad the car is now working.

As someone who's never even bothered to use launch control in their car, this seems rather weird.

My GTR does a couple of trackdays a month, not sure launch control is going to dent those laptimes🤣

I’m a Brit, we don’t “get” drag racing😉

I just want to give you guys an update, the car had issue with the transmission coolant pomp and need transmission control unit software updates! After I got my ECU to stock Mercedes fixed that for me. I sent back my ECU to HDTUNING, they tuned it again with no problems. I ran 1/4 mile 11.1 with 91 octane. 0 to 125mph (200km) 10.3 s ...
the car is changed to different animal.
I had really good experience with HDTUNING. They help me to solve the problems! I Highly recommend them. They answer text me hundred times right away Matt and Josh are amazing to work with !

You are either very brave or very foolish. Perhaps both.

After having had overheating problems that may have arisen from a tune he went back to the tuner.

Mercedes told me the transmission coolant pomp they’ve ordered has different part number and it’s stronger, also the software update for transmission was significant, they’ve changed so many parameters regarding temperature. I think they knew 2016 model had issue that’s why they’ve made so many changes!

I believe driveshafts were beefed up on 17s as well.
