UPD AMG GT air intake kit and filter special

They worked very well and the filters were dry. I have the Weistec dry filters for the GTC but I wonder if the spacers would work with these and if so could I get a pair. For the record I would have ordered the UPD set for the GTC but I won’t run oiled filters anymore as I have had service issues with them in the past... thank you.

I want to do a before/after dyno with this kit on my GTS but it's too damn hot right now in Texas. Going to wait until September.

Well I did this filter change after cat delete, but I did notice the car was breathing alot better and was spooling up faster. The stock filters were more than twice the thickness, so I just believe it’s an obvious mod to make.

I am wondering if it is worth it to install the Weistec filter along the "air box spacer" ...?
Thanks

Anyone install these on a GTR? Are intakes the same?

Yes it’s the same.
I have the Weistec filters on my GTC and there is a bit of a difference in the butt dyno but I mostly got them because they are washable and they seem to be the only dry high flow filters out there. That said I did run the UPD setup a few years ago on my 14 e63 and it felt good too. More air can’t hurt.

Guys, there is no HP difference with this. Zero, ziltch. A cold air intake is one thing, but lifting the filter is not going to improve air flow at all. Even if it gave some margin of improvement which there is no proof that it does everyone would be doing it, A car with 500-600hp is not going to feel a 5hp improvement nor is it going to rev different or more freely. A turbo is going to force air through at what the computers allow. With a tune it’s still what the computers will allow. RENNtech and others are getting 700+hp with stock intakes. So this is not helping it at all. What do you guys think is more restrictive, the intake which has no viable reason for restrictions or exhaust which has a ton of restrictions due to co2 numbers and smog?

For me it’s an an environment thing first and performance benefit second if any. I’m pretty sure these filters with spacers were dynoed and shown to offer more than 5hp but if memory serves it was in the previous gen 5.5l biturbo v8...

I want to thank the people at Autoscope in Plano for getting me in last minute for before and after runs; with the stock filters on my GTS and then the Weistec filters. They were done on a Dynapack dyno. The car is bone stock besides this.
The good news is the first two runs were consistent at 503hp at the wheels and 500 ft/lb of torque! I knew they underrated the car; but that’s a lot. The disappointing part was zero hp gain with the new filters. To be fair, I am going to redyno in a week to let the ECU adjust and see if that makes a difference. Who knows.

I think HP is the wrong focus, but it isn't to say that there couldn't be improvement in another area.
There is turbo lag on these cars which with better air flow could be offset - not sure if that's the case with this lift thing; however cars like the 911 TT can gain a huge amount of benefit from addressing the chokehold that the plenum and y-pipe have on the system. And, while it seems like an expensive (2K range) mod it transforms the car and addresses a great deal of turbo lag. So, less about HP and more about getting to said HP a LOT more efficiently.

Wow. I’m looking at the torque curves, I see either huge gains or huge losses between 3000 and 4500 rpm. Can you share which color bands are which? Orange/magenta with after market filter and glue/green with stock filter? While peak numbers don’t look much different, torque band is shifted a few hundred rpm or gains of about 20 ft lb.

well there goes my thoughts then. No discernible difference between stock and aftermarket filter
