Btw I’ve never used the Touchpad in my ‘18; just the wheel but boy do I miss not having Apple Play available.
since at least 2017 if not 2016. It’s called Siri Eyes Free. If you have an iPhone and it’s paired by Bluetooth then press and hold the voice button on the right steering spoke for 2-3 seconds and Siri comes up. It’s not CarPlay but it works very well for reading and responding to messages and all other things iPhone in the car....

I use Siri all the time in the GT. I first learned of this feature -- called a workaround by BMW -- in my last BMW, an M4. But Siri can be cranky. Sometimes she'll tell me to unlock my phone first. Other times she'll tell me she can't give me that information while the car is moving. So the integration is not complete. More like barely usable.
