Tuned AMG GT-R vs Tuned M6 - 1/2 Mile
|
Looks like the M6 got an early jump. If they had started at the same time I believe the GT R would have pulled out a larger gap. |
155 not so fast for 700hp cars in 1/2 mile. |
^ Right. It seems a bit off. I thought stock 600 hp cars trapped mid 150 in the 1/2 mile. |

Bish in the 1/2 it’s about MPH. True, and I get that, but the M6 was multiple car lengths ahead at the start which I thought odd given that the GT R had equal HP, and is lighter. It vexed me! lol Bish |

M6 is not AWD and its a porker; I had one and it was tuned. The jump is the jump but the car with better hp to weight ratio won. I think the weight delta is circa 800 lbs??

A question to ask you is how much do you drive the Ferrari? Month/Year? I am looking at a 2019 but I was reminded that excessive milage and the ongoing service expense would quickly change my mind. Would you say the the MB GTR is better in this regard especially for a daily driver? Many thanks Jerry |
Can't speak for the 488 but the 458 is a better daily than the GTS. The front is shorter and it's easier to navigate tight spaces. Set the transmission to Race and the suspension to Bumpy Road and it's as compliant as the GTS with a more linear throttle due to the N/A engine. With the roof up you can roll down the rear window and listen to the glorious engine note.
Also, service is included for the first 7 years of ownership. OEM warranty is for 3 years. You take a hit in resale once mileage goes over 10K so I traded mine in for a Huracan after 2 years. |

She took it to Dallas last weekend and drives it all the time now. I used to have to fight her for the Range Rover because she didn't like parking the QP, it's two inches longer than a 750Li. I have only gotten to drive the AMG a few times but I liked it. I drive the Ferrari about three to four times a week depending on weather and the trips I make where I can use it. It's easy to drive for the same reasons mentioned by surfah and the Daytona Full Electric seats in mine are more comfortable than the Recaro seats but I really, really like the cockpit layout in the AMG. |

Probably has more to do with the horrible lag or torque management from punching it off the line. When I drag race most of my vehicles I leave off the last amber. With the GTR I have to leave off the second amber or a bit sooner to cut a good light.
I would have hoped with a tune they could dial the TM back if that is what it is. There is essentially zero lag in my OEM tuned GT R; at any speed. Perhaps the 'tuned' GT R which I think was advertised at 700 hp is far more 'laggy' than a stock car? Bish |

Bish Thats almost always the case- these cars spool up so fast and a tune wont create more lag. |
Is it also possible they had a ton of wheel spin? Curious what tires they're running because my R888Rs hook like an AWD car, even with a tune.
|
I tuned my 991tts up to the max and it was basically overpowering the ability of the DCT to account properly for all the added torque. My car had a problem with LC because of the torque. Even with TC off, LC will manage the shift in first gear. My car was spinning halfway through first gear even with LC and then it would shift to 2nd but spin again on the shift to 3rd. I couldn't tell from the drivers seat that it was spinning like that but I could see it in the OBD data that I collected using the AP from Cobb that provided the tune. It could also be seen in the Vbox plot of speed vs time.

I don't have any lag once the car is moving, but initially from a dead stop and I mash the pedal, it is literally a 2 count before anything happens.
If you are doing this; mashing the pedal when stopped, make sure you're not in 'C' mode since the car has 2nd gear engaged when stopped in that mode, and if you go and 'mash the pedal', the DCT 'might' be taking a second to engage first before taking off. That 'could' be a source of the lag of which you speak. Bish |

Then you need to get your car checked; there is absolutely no way that I experience a two second lag from a stand still.

The green hurt my brain. Green looks good on a submariner but definitely not a Mercedes. |

That’s interesting John, I thought I had read in the manual that the car is in 2nd at a stop when in ‘C’ mode. I’ll check this myself when it finally gets above 40dF! lol |
When i had my S63 coupe, in comfort mode it started out in 2nd, in the GTR it starts out in 1st as the picture above indicates.
