GTR Black Series

Wanted to start up this thread, today had a call from the MB dealer, apparently the GTR Black Series will be debuted sometime this year or early next year, the only information I have from him is limited, around 700hp, 700nm, 50 KG lighter from the GTR Pro, looks are identical to the GTR Pro with two scoops in the hood, double rear spoiler with electronic adjustment.

your thoughts or additional information would be appreciated.

Wouldn’t stretch that as a confirmation.

I wouldn't call that "confirmed 630 HP", Autocar clearly points out the number came from the 630 HP GT63 S, MB dealer seems to have more insight. The M156/159 on SLS BS already had 622 HP, if you call this new GT a BS, it will have the most powerful M177/178 and 700 HP is not too far off.

It would also edge it towards one of the category's most radical supercars, the 690bhp Porsche 911 GT2 RS. According to Moers, the Black Series will be “great competition with our close neighbour.”

the person who wrote the article had a bad hp guess in my opinion, to compete with the RS as he quoted himself, he must have a similar or higher HP and similar or lower weight, dont be surprised if you even over 700hp.

one thing yesterday I forgot to add the dealer said that it would have titanium parts, I would guess exhaust this is how far they are going with the car to reduce weight

This is good to know! The Inventory Specialist at my dealer has been communicating with MBUSA on my behalf about the Black Series. Apparently, I was put on a list to be informed about the happenings/events of the car. There have been no communications about the car which is a bit concerning....

Did you dealer tell you how many allocations will be available for the US?

I think they are sandbagging it - hopefully. Based on the description it sounds like a GTR PRO 2.0 to me - yawn. It needs to be 3200-3300 pounds and close to 700hp imho to deserve the black series moniker after a seven year hiatus. Strip it out to save weight like Ferrari does with the Speciale. Get rid of weight, distronic, bulky stereo, heavy seats, minimize cabin weight - that sort of thing. Customers will buy regardless. They need to go all out on this one. Not just a bit more aero, HP and save 30/50kg of weight. Make it truly special and it needs to go under 7 minutes at the ring as well.

I predict even more active Aero and a 48 V active anti-roll bar system.

Agreed with BBell regarding the weight and the horsepower, but bigger turbos & intercoolers. Black series always has parts not available on other cars

To say the truth I believe it will smoke the GT2 RS and we will see under 7 minutes for sure this is a no brainer to guess, I also have heard the engine might be a 180 degree not 90, if this is true this should give the car higher rpm capability and there for we will see a complete different prospective of the usual AMG engine and even different sound. Anyone else heard of this?

I can't help but wonder at what point the limiting factor on engine output in the GT chassis is the DCT. Remember that the GT63S and E63S get the MCT 9 speed, which is not a true dual clutch, and they are also not transaxles. The carbon driveshaft also has to be a limiting factor/need re-engineering, as I would venture a guess both are approaching the upper limits of OEM reliable performance without some further engineering.

i believe Torque limits are around 750 hp & 750/ ft. There are guys here from GAD running close to these numbers and don’t recall issues.

Driveshaft was upgraded in 2016 after a small recall and some snapped shafts.

All I know is that the engine has the E63S turbos. Does not sound too radical to believe a 700ish hp car. Been on the list for over a year now

this is why if they have a high rev engine it will have a complete different torque curve they will be within the limit at different rpms carbon fiber drive shaft could handle more than what a steel shaft would handle you should do a small search and see its incredible how much it could handle, some driveshaft on the GTs had a recall in 2016 due to the glue not carbon fiber.

My GTR for example TCU was programmed to run 7550 rpm, it’s not an easy job but GAD-Motors pulled it off and this is to reduce the torque at shifting point to have a smooth nice shift and reduce stress on the clutch, they also did that on my SLS it shifts at 7700 also to reduce stress on the gearbox, this is why a 180 degree engine in the BS is a most likely because it’s the only way to make rpm without slapping a crazy turbo like I did in both my cars.

So wonder if the BS will be a 2021 Model? If so looks like it will be a hybrid?

Off topic but I see lots of pics of the GT in camo with a black series reference. This pic is a lowly i6 mule, not a BS

So remember something:

The goal for AMG is to produce a GT BS that bests the times of the 991.2 GT3 RS and gets close/equal to the GT2 RS. These are lap times on some of the most famous road courses in the world; not 1/4 mile times. Given the fact that the GT R/Pro already can be traction limited on a road course, I highly doubt that AMG will be looking to make the car a hp/torque monster, especially if it remains RWD, which it almost most certainly will. So I’m looking for the figure of 650hp-700hp, because AMG has to show a sizable bump in power versus the GT R/Pro for marketing purposes, but the main crux of the car is lower lap times which will be done with more advanced aero; suspension and (minor) weight reduction along with MPSC2 ‘R’ tyres.

It’s going to be one hell of a car.

Bish

The Fed dictate is that IF it doesn’t deliver before the end of February in the US it will be a 2021 here.

So, they could hit the shores in Dec/Jan, get held up at the VPC (who has ever seen that happen) and then be customer released in March or later as 2021’s.

I have my deposit on the only one my dealer will be receiving. This is going to be a 2021 model year. I have no details on the car yet but the dealer confirmed they will be getting 1.
