My seatbelt doesn’t retract

Frankly it’s driving me nuts. It doesn’t retract after I unbuckle it.

Does it need to to be replaced ?

Yeah, I did it. It was a recall.

Took all day. So get a loaner.

Funny cause when I got my car I recall the seatbelt recall. However, I was informed that my car wasn’t affected

Didn't the recall have something to do with the upper loop? My seatbelt always gets stuck up there. I assumed it was fixed before sale...

They had the upper loop installed so that it wouldn't get stuck retro on many 2016,17 ,early 18 GTs....
They would punch in a leather strap...kinda savage but it worked.

On my old GTS I had the recall for the upper loop. But I think what cutter is speaking of is the same thing that I experience with my GTC. I "unbuckle" my seat belt when I get out of the car and the belt does not retract much. If I tug it once or twice it will but that's it. Same on passenger side. Didn't take it in for service as it really didn't bother me.

John, that is what is happening to mine. I have a leather loop at the top already. It is finicky to retract all the way.

Do all the AMG GTs have Pre-Safe? Specifically do the belts 'cynch-up' against your body when you buckle them? I love that.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I just got my first GT ('18 Roadster upgraded from a '13 SL550), and I have that same issue. - I do have a loop on the seat (which is looking pretty worn already), but the belts - both sides -just don't seem to have enough 'spring' in them to retract fully. - Is this just the way it is on GT's or do the belts on yours retract automatically without needing help? - I was going to take the interior apart in the near future just to make sure nothing was pinching the mechanism, but if this is just the way it is, then that would be a wasted effort. - any insight to a new GT owner would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had that problem with my 2018 coupe. It was replaced but never operated well. On my 2020 GTA sometimes the retractor swallows the belt and it requires me to dig it out of the receptacle.

On my 2016 GTS both retract on their own still with no issues, after 26K miles.
I do have the leather loop at the top and it does get the buckle stuck if it scrolls up there.
If your seatbelts don't retract on their own I would have the dealer look into and see if they replace them for you.

2018 GT R Coupe. No issues but also low miles ~4400.

My last 3 vehicles have been verts so they have inherent seat belt retracting issues by design. Prior I had two MB coupes and they seemed fine. Does your car have the setting to auto tighten the belt? Seems like any MB in the last 5-7 years has had this option. That might help it tighten up better. I have taken my benz's in for seat belts in the past and since they are safety issues the dealerships seem to try to fix at NC.
