DIY : How to Replace batteries in your keyfob with Pictures
12 Attachment(s)
I've randomly seen some members post this question or inquire about how much it costs at the dealer, so I decided to take a few pictures and post it to answer any future questions once and for all.
I took pics with both type of keyfobs (pre 2007 and post 2007) to make it a one stop guide for all. enjoy.. , the batteries, type CR2025 were $2.60 shipped for 5 .. don't go to radioshack and pay 6$/each. Link to ebay for Maxell, http://tinyurl.com/5reeed New Keyfob (old is below the 1st set of pics):- Attachment 384378Attachment 384379Attachment 384380Attachment 384381Attachment 384382Attachment 384383Attachment 384384 Old Keyfob:- Attachment 384385Attachment 384386Attachment 384387Attachment 384388Attachment 384389 p.s. Yes its real easy, no need to go to a dealer... |
Thanks for some truly helpful information - both the pics and the link.

DIFFERENT KEY PROBLEM ?
The battery replacement details in this thread are really good however, having done that, there's another problem as one of my 2000 S320's 2 keys won't open or close the car all the time. The other's fine.
Looking at various marks on the door open and boot open sections of the key it seems it may have been trodden or or had something dropped on it so I'm wondering:- 1...Can the other internal parts of the key be removed once the valet key has been taken out to see if there's any internal damage and, if so, how? 2...Assuming it's not repairable, what is the cheapest way to get a good replacement? |

I thought as much but thanks for the fast reply anyway. It clears things up. #1 I Got The Key Tru The Dealer >>> Cost Me $250.00 #2 The Key Came In, But I Have Go Start Car With The Start Button On The Gear Shift, So The Key Did Not Work To Open The Car, What I Had To Do Was Have The Dealer Take The ORG #2 Key Out Of My Key Bank For The Car , And Have The New Key Put In As The #2 Key. With There Star Computer , It Have To Be Programed. You See My 05 S500 Is GoStart I Can Have up To Seven Key Made For My Car BUT Only Key #1 And Key #2 Will Open The Car The Other 5 Keys Will Just Start The Car. That's Where I Was At With The Key Issue. But So You Know , The New Key That I Got Fell In My Pool And Got Wet And Did Not Work Again, What I Did Was o Open The Key Take The Battery Out And Buried It In A Bowl Of White Rice , And Bingo 24 Hours It Worked Again,, Just A Tip , Workes Very Well On WET Cell Phones Also :) I Only Hope This All Made Sense To You, And Who Ever Reads This Have Fun Harley03joe :smokin: |
Thanks Again
:y Harley03joe
I was resigned to going to the dealer for a new key until your second post about the swimming pool and white rice. Tried the rice but it didn't work after a full day BUT did notice a very small cut all the way through door unlock section of the outside case so sprayed a very small amount of WD40 into the electric side of the case + onto the the outside of the small crack, worked it around with a blunt matchstick to get it to soak through. RESULT - It's worked properly for 2 days & you've saved me $$$$$$. THANKS AGAIN! |

Thank you so very much for posting this! I had to take my dog to the emergency vet this evening & my GL wouldn't lock. I had enough stress with my dog & didn't want to worry about my car. When I got home, I tried the spare remote & it worked so I figured it was the battery.
Again, thank you for the info. & step by step instructions. I knew this forum would come thru for me! |

I'm Getting To Find Out That M-Benz Is Getting Over Rated, As Being The Finest Out There, And COST THE MOST For Repairs And Buying Replacement Parts, With I Think Is This The Last Good Benz Was The 1991 SEL 420, Just My Thinking. M Benz Might Be Made In Germany "BUT" Put Together Just Like Any Jap Car, Again Just My Thinking , I Don't Feel That There Is Anythng Specail About The Car, "JUST THE NAME" Just My Thinking. If You Dont Beleave Me Just Go Look At The Hyundai EQUUS With 100,000 Mile Warrenty And 10 Years At 1/2 The Cost Of A Benz :) Enjoy http://www.hyundaiusa.com/vehicles/2...us/experience/ http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...20362035-E.jpg http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...20362033-E.jpg http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...20362028-E.jpg http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...20362026-E.jpg Harley03joe :D |

Thanks for the post
The post is 4 years old and the pictures and descriptions are still helping people.
Thanks Peter |
Big Thanks!
I've been trying for a year to open the newer fob. There is not a black slider on it and everything I've previously read mentioned removing the valet key but not showing specifically what to do via illustrations.
Thanks MUCH for this post. Now my wife can't keep nagging me because she has to press the unlock several times before it actually unlocks the car. |
2012 key fob
See page 79.
Remove manual key. Push back into fob in other side. Battery cover will pop off. |
