How to add sub amp to 2000 S Class

Hey guys. Figured I'd hit this forum up. Someones has got to have some knowledge on this. Been professionally installing mobile electronics for nearly 18 years. Just haven't had too much run-ins with a Benz.

My neighbor has a 2000 S Class with Nav and Bose. He likes the added bass I did in my wife's truck so he would like me to add a pair of 10s to the trunk. Who has done this on a 2000 model or similar? I would assume it can be done with a Pac SNI-35 or similar line output converter but where is the amplifier or where is the best place to do this?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

See the electronics location for the car at http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsit..._bulletins.htm - and no, that's not a mistake.

The connections between the HU and the amp are fiber optics. From the amp to the speakers, copper wire. Line output converter is the way to go. I can't help much on where to locate the new speakers, but you may have better sound if you also remove the rear sub from the parcel shelf behind the rear seat.

A search of the W220 and the Audio & Electronics forums using the terms "bass" or"subs" may give you some results of successful (or less than successful) speaker installations.

Thanks for the input. I found a few tech sheets that give me the wiring info for the rear speakers and even the factory subs coming from the amplifier harness. I'm going to use a speaker inverter/line driver off of this signal. Should be fine. Nice thing is I think the battery is under the rear seat still. Love not having to run all the way to the front of the cars. I also found the remote turn on wire can be grabbed at the CD changer harness. The inverter I am using will actually delay the amp turn-on for five seconds so that it doesn't give you the "THUMP" sound when the vehicle turns on. So annoying.

Most of the better quality amps out there can take the sub signal straight without a hi/lo adapter and when turned on by the factory amp turn on or antenna module doesn't thump on or off, of corse having the proper gain structure does help also. Audison and JL Audio come to mind, Audison hands down though
