2010 E350 coupe: custom, discreet radar detector mounting

My previous car had a factory gradient non-metallic tint strip within the glass of the windshield such that I could mount a Valentine 1 or other high-end detector behind it, high and near the rear-view mirror, and it would be nearly invisible from outside the car. I never felt obligated to take the unit down when parking.

My E350 has no such strip. As it is, I have a V1 high near the driver's side of the rear-view mirror, with a power cord tucked into the headliner, down the A pillar, and hardwired to the car within the driver's side of the dash, behind the trim panel, to a wire switched with the ignition. Attached to this is a V1C for custom programming by way of my iPhone / Bluetooth.

My question is this: shy of ponying up for remote mount units and installing them or having them custom installed (Bel's STiR+, Escort's 9500ci, so on), does anyone have any creative ways to discreetly a mount a RD without it being blatantly obvious from outside the vehicle or an eyesore from within it?

Unfortunately if you don't have the black strip by the rear view mirror it will be tough. Now if we start lopping off hands of thieves... we wouldn't have this conversation as the windows could be down
