KEYLESS GO MALFUNCTION

My keyless go is no longer working. I can start the car with the key but the button no longer works and I get a message saying "Key Not Recognized". This would happen intermittently for a while but now it will not work at all. It also takes several attempts to lock/unlock and the light on the key doesn't always light up when I push the buttons. I have replaced the battery in the key but that has not helped. I would like to determine weather or not this is a key issue before replacing the key. I would hate to spend $350 on a new key just to eliminate that as a possibility but if there is a way to determine that that is what it is I'm all ears.

Yes you purchase a Xentry diagnostic system for 800 bucks and the system will answer your question, however there is one other alternative!
