Reviving an old thread. In addition to the Unichip solution, has anyone used the ******* box? Both seem to be similarly priced, similar functionality. I'm interested in both of these, as they allow me to preserve the stock hu/COMAND.

Home menu with Mirroring option

Carplay menu
Finally pulled the trigger on the Unichip. I now have Carplay using the OEM monitor. Looks completely stock, but I also have the mirroring capability, which allows me to access any app on the iPhone and view it on the COMAND screen. Only issue is that I have to use the scroll wheel for navigation as the stock screen is not a touch screen. Not a big deal, but it is a slightly different experience from natively supported Carplay. I'm just happy that my 2015 E400 now has a functioning Carplay!

UPDATE: Apparently, I did NOT have the Unichip smartbox. It was actually from icartisan. Unfortunately, I had to pull this, as my installer could not get support from icartisan to resolve issues like reverse camera wouldn't work and turn signal stalk would freeze the unit and display a frozen image. The mirroring worked, but there was too much latency between video and audio.

My installer and I both tried to contact Unichip to purchase a smartbox from them, but they were non-responsive to both of us. My installer suggested we try ******* and I reluctantly agreed, but then I found this wireLESS Carplay unit from Joyeauto, so I called me installer to cancel the ******* order. Even with DHL express shipping, I still paid much less for the wireless Carplay from Joyeauto than I would have had to pay from *******. Additionally, it's wireless!

I am thinking of getting this from Joyeauto. What has been you experience so far? Any issues?

WiFi wireless connection is really fast. You do have to use the Aux audio connection, but I use the Tune-In and Sirius apps via CarPlay, so toggling audio inputs is not necessary. The sound quality is better in the app than it is in the HU, but that’s the difference between the sat signal and IP. You also need to disconnect BT between your phone & COMAND HU, otherwise, there may be a conflict as the Joyeauto box also uses BT. I would also recommend setting the vol control on the Joyeauto box no more than 75%, as sound will distort above those levels.

My installer did, but I don't recall which Android phone his guy used. As I understand it, there isn't full support for Android, but if you've got the most current, both hw and sw, it should be fine.

iPhone 6s and Xs have been working great wirelessly and wired. I am probably going to add a Qi charger pad to the car so I can ditch the cable completely.

Joyauto for W166?

Hello, I have a 2013 ML350 BT and I would like to get Apple Carplay. Do you recommend Joyeauto and how difficult was the installation?

1- Will I be able to project/mirror Waze?
2- Will the stock rear view camera still work with the original screen? Will I have to change/program anything?

Thanks in advance!

My installer said it was pretty straightforward, though his guy had to mod the case to mount. No mirroring, Waze works in CarPlay. It's been in CarPlay for a while now.

OEM backup camera works as it did before. When you are in reverse, it works as designed.

Thanks for the reply! So where is the best place to buy it from? I see you can buy it trom the Joyeaudio website or on Aliexpress. Any preference?
