Headunit Survey
#2
I have the Kenwood P-907 headunit with retractable screen. It's pretty good except that you get crappy FM reception. I heard theres only two compatible CD changers available for this unit, but overall, I'm pretty satisifed with it. If only the screen were a bit bigger....

If you have a Kenwood head unit, you can use the Kenwood Music Keg. It's a digital music device which works like a CD changer, only it stores thousands of MP3 files on a removable hard disk instead of CD's.

ALpine CHA-S634 is a MP3 CD chenger.
But when I was testing it at a local store, I got some problems:
The CD changer is ai-net/m-bus competible. It is switched to M-bus mode when connected to my 1998 C280 (using an adapter). 1, The head unit is able to display only 99 tracks.
2, It jumped to any track when I was trying to select songs.
The problem is that the CD changer is mainly designed for ai-net.
That's why I am thinking of install the CDA-7894 head unit. More problems...

The CDA-7990 is part of the F1 series, lowest price I've seen $2,500. You will need to get monitor and the F1 PXA-900 to complete the system. Which will probably run you in the $9k without speakers or amps yet.
The new S634 is a very nice 6disc changer with MP3 capabilities. I have it installed in my car. Here is the link

I played with both at CEC and to me, the Clarion is the absolute class of the field. No other unit (not Alpine, Panasonic, Kenwood, etc.) has Mp3 AND DVD! Then you add touch screed, sirius, DTS, etc.!
This is truly ONE unit that can do it all! I like changers, but I don;t lke my head unit to limit the type of medium that I can play. If I want to play an Mp3 or DVD, I don't want to have to plan that before I get on a long trip or pull over to do so! I like flexibility.
The looks of this unit IMHO also are much nicer then the Alpine.
Just my $0.02!
Thanks
Brad
