Which diagnostic tool for Stepper Motors? (W209)

I have the age-old stepper motor issue with my 2003 CLK and would like to figure out which ones are causing the problem.

I appreciate that a STAR diagnostic is the best way to do it, but failing that, can any of the usual diagnostic tools actually pinpoint which stepper motor(s) it is?

I am thinking of the iCarsoft i980 at the moment.

UPDATE: I went with the i980. It did the full range of stepper motor checks (finding legacy A32m2 and current m2/11 as well as a b31/1 fault). Recommended.
